"The Final Inspection"

The policeman stood and faced his God,

which must always come to pass.

He hoped his shoes were shining,

just as brightly as his brass.

"Step forward now, policeman.

How shall I deal with you?

Have you always turned the other cheek?

To My church have you been true?"

The policeman squared his shoulders

and said, "No Lord. I guess I ain't.

Because those who carry badges,

can't always be a saint."

"I've had to work most Sundays,

and at times my talk was rough...

and sometimes I've been violent

because the streets are awful tough."

"But I never took a penny,

that wasn't mine to keep...

though I worked a lot of overtime

when the bills got just too steep."

"And I never passed a cry for help,

though at times I shook with fear.

And sometimes, God forgive me,

I wept unmanly tears."

"I know I don't deserve a place

among the people here.

They never wanted me around

except to calm their fear."

"If you've a place for me here, Lord,

it needn't be so grand.

I never expected or had too much,

But, if you don't...I'll understand."

There was silence all around the throne,

where saints had often trod,

as the policeman waited quietly

for the judgement of his God.

"Step forward now, policeman

You've borne your burdens well.

Come walk a beat on heaven's streets.

You've done your time in hell."

Officer Reyka,

My heart goes out to you, your family, and your Brothers in Blue. May God watch over your loved ones in this difficult time. The Lord works in mysterious ways, and we may not know the reason he needed you so desperately yesterday. He calls upon his best officers to patrol the streets of Heaven. We will be there in time to protect God's Paradise with you, but not yet brother, not yet.

Rest in Peace my brother, We'll take it from here.

It never ceases to sadden and sicken me to see instances where the righteous are taken from us during unexplainable acts of cowardice and stupidity. My deepest condolences to the Reyka family, as well as my brothers and sisters in arms at Broward County.

Rest easy, Sarge - your rise to heaven will be on wings as swift as those bound to bring justice to your assassin.

Well, I guess God's stolen another great LEO and made him an Angel. I think of it this way, you're in great hands.

My sincerest condolences to your wife, children, friends and especially your co-workers. They've lost a wonderful role model from what I've read and seen on T.V. Although I did not know you personally, I spent the first 26 years of my life in Broward County. Just knowing you were there protecting me makes me feel so much safer. I guess it's inspirations like you who made me become a fellow LEO.

Keep up the great work guarding and guiding your fellow LEO's in Heaven. You will be missed!

Thanks for doing your job and protecting the citizens of Broward.

We remember our brave soldiers, marines, sailors and airmen (and rightfully so) who pay the ultimate sacrifice serving their country. Forgotten however, beyond their own communities, families, friends, brother and sister officers, are the peace officers who lay down their lives for community and country. Sgt. Reyka you made your area of the world a little safer by being there. Who knows what innocent lives you saved by sacrificing your own. Not a word will be heard about this on national news. But we(your brothers and sisters) honor you and your family, and I will drop to my knees asking God to help mend your families' hearts. Sgt. Reyka you are a hero, and gave your life in the service of your country just as if you had gone off to war. The world is little less safe without you out there at night, but your spirit lives on in the brave men and women you lead and helped train. You will never be forgotten. Semper Fidelis.
