Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Sergeant Christopher Reyka

Sir, you are a hero and an angel. I pray for you and your family. I pray for strength for your family in the days to come. It will be a difficult and hard road, but know your husband, father, and friend is still with you, and will always be. You also have the love and support from all of the law enforcement family. May God bless Sgt. Reyka, his family, and all at the Broward County Sheriff's Office.

Our Community Will Never Be the Same

Who would have known you’d meet your fate
Behind Walgreen’s, dark and way past late
During a routine check and a call put in
Somewhere is one to account for the sin
Of taking you at 51; cut short a life so far from done.
Amidst blood and vile is the irony
Of your steadfast commitment to community.

I will never pass the corner without saying a prayer
For you, honorable sergeant who gave your life there
And your family and friends, all who now feel such pain
Knowing each day they’ll never see you again.

Knowing justice and truth and serenity prevail
In the morning when darkness seems to pale
There are stars that still shine in the heart and the mind
It’s the legacy that good men like you leave behind.

Thank you, Sergeant Reyka, for all you did and for all you were to so many of us.

Rest in Peace.

Upon the markers of their graves
Our heroes etched in names we save
For all the life they gave with pride
To keep the peace within life's stride

To honor serve and do their best
To keep us safe through any quest
They gave up what was theirs to share
Their spirits shall be always near

No fear within the hearts and minds
To keep us safe within our times
The glory that is ours to see
Those special hearts of bravery

They have walked where no man dare
Their lives in danger with no care
For they have given all they could
For their courage we have stood

In awe of every one who gave
His life for others who they saved
So we will know their contribution
Their firm resolve and resolution

For those they left with hearts so broken
In every whispered word that's spoken
We bow our heads in confirmation
In every word life's revelation

Those who stand within their shoes
Will follow courage as they choose
And give to all the best they had
They carry on with spirits glad

We will know that they walked through
With colors bright and hearts so true
No Island stands alone they say
For heroes they are born this way

Protecting those with loyalty
A glimpse of so much royalty
Within the years of courage bound
These officers have earned their crown

Upon the earth we shall remember
The special goals and all their thunder
That proves a hero came our way
Who left their hearts on earth to stay.

Sgt Reyka,
I remember our first Field Force training together like it was yesterday. You were newly promoted and had just been given the task of monitoring our goon squad and I was like "Man, does he know what he's getting into?" You were like a breath of fresh air. Cool, calm, going with the flow. Very well spoken, no nonsense, just like a great leader and supervisor should be. I'm sure you were an even better husband and father. Your loss is shocking and tragic. You will never be forgotten, Sarge. I know, as you take over from up above, you'll keep watching over your goons on Foxtrot Field Force. Rest in peace.

Too many times,
too many tears,
too many hearts broken
and too many lives shattered.

Too many bad guys,
too few good guys.

But the heart and will of the few
will triumph over the many.

Civilians in law enforcement feel the pain, too.
