To the many family members of Sergeant Reyka, my hearts aches for each and everyone of you...I was so saddened to hear this story...each one that gets added to this page touches me deeply, but this was so close to home. I moved to south Florida about 6 months after losing Drew. It has been a long 2 1/2 years, and yet the time has flown by.

To Sergeant Reyka's wife, I am in Wellington now, and would like to offer myself to you...if there is anything you need...anything at all...I too have children that have struggled through this difficult time...there may come a time in the future when you say to yourself "I just wish I could talk to someone who really understands"...if you get there....please call on me....I still feel that way and would very much enjoy being able to listen to you as others have listened to me...and perhaps the children could visit with one another....please feel free to contact me through this website...Chris Cosgriff is wonderful!

Until we meet...I pray you have the strength to carry you forward through these difficult days...I pray for the safety of your son...I pray for the safety of all the officers working so hard to find the people responsible...I have no doubt they will prevail...

Sergeant Reyka....look for Drew...he too was a Marine...and a proud American...it was his destiny to serve and protect...first as a Marine then as a Police Officer...Thank you for your dedication...you will never be forgotten...watch over your family...let them feel your presence...let them know they are not alone...

Much love,
Chrissy Henley

"The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

As a former Broward resident whom relied so much on the Police to protect us, it is a tragedy to hear that a member of the shield is murdered. I have faith that his family is being comforted by his extended family and county. I take my hat off to him and the sacrifice his family has endured. They are to heroes. I will pray for peace and understanding for the survivors and the department. I know that the department is turning over every rock to ensure the murders are caught and delt with. GO GET THEM.

Dear Family of Officer Reyka:

We are so saddened to hear of your loss. It is such a tragedy. Your husband was such a courageous person and because of his sacrifice, he paid the ultimate price to protect & serve his community. Our condolences go out to you at this difficult time. May God be with you & wrap his loving arms around you & bring you comfort during your time of grief.

Our family also lost our brother/son/husband, Officer Frank C. Denzinger, Floyd County Police Department, Indiana. Frank was shot & killed on June 18, 2007 - 8 wks. ago today. He answered a domestic dispute call regarding a 15 yr. old and Frank & Officer Joel White were ambushed shortly after they arrived. It's such a difficult thing to understand "why". Hopefully someday we'll get the answers we need. Right now, we miss him deeply, every minute of the day, but reliving those happy & wonderful memories of him help the healing process.

God Bless you, your children & family. May your children always know what a hero their father was. Officer Reyka will live on through them forever. May you always feel his presence & know he will always be with you.

With deepest regards, Amy Denzinger Cook and family

Our justice system needs to send a message and make these murderers pay for their crime. They must be caught and put to death immediately. Do not allow them to sit on death row. I believe a public execution should be in order. I appologize for my harshness but killing our LEOs has to stop now. My heart goes out to Sgt.Reyka's family and friends. This is the worst day one can imagine, the loss of a loved one. I know he will be missed by many. Broward County Sheriffs Officers, please do not rest until these scum bags are caught. My condolences to all.
