All of us Border Patrol Agents deeply grieve for such a great loss and for his family. We always strive to make sure we go home and this one didn't. We will use his fine example to maintain our passion and dedication for our jobs, so that his loss would not have been in vain. May God have Eric in his Kindgom and bless his entire family. There are not words, only comforting silence.

As I read the reflections for this fine young man I again realized just how one individual can impact many others. I work at the facility that houses the United States Border Patrol Academy. Everyday I see dedicated individuals who are in the infancy of their careers in protecting the United States. May God bless this family, Eric's co-workers, classmates and friends during this difficult time. Let Eric's untimely death remind all USBP Agents of the dangers faced by the environmental conditions under which you work each day. Let all of us strive to ensure this type of event does not occur in the future. May the Lord's mercy watch over all USBP agents as they protect us.

In 1954 I was detailed to Campo and am familiar with the rugged and harsh terrain of that country. My heart goes out to his family and they will be remembered in my prayers. I salute Agent Cabral for his dedication. He will be remembered as one of the many heroes of the Border Patrol.

Last Saturday was a very hard day for me when I met the loving family of Mr. Cabral. With each moment I have spent with Eric's family I realize how deep this loss is with them all. I hope my presence on his services gives some comfort and it is my aim to direct the most dignified service deserving of any man or woman serving their country and family the way Eric did. I know my words can not heal the wounds your hearts have suffered by his loss, but please know that I and everyone at the funeral home care and are here for you all during this time and in the coming months and years should you need a friend to talk to. My God bless you all!

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Cabral family. The following was taken in part from a poem written by Reverend Frank Hawkins, a former Border Patrol Agent wounded in the line of duty.

"That when we finally get to the High Country,
Beyond the timberline,
A place where smugglers don't exist
Where the water's cool,
The coffee's hot,
And where all of us can shoot one inch groups;
That YOU'LL look at the visa
We got at YOUR Embassy down he and say:
'Welcome home P.I., this is the
Best detail of your life.'"
