Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Joshua Everett Norris

Josh was my brother both by blood and by the badge. My family appreciates all of the love and support that everyone has shown. My little brother was taken way too soon. I loved him more than my own life. I will miss him everyday of my life and beyond. My only hope is that I can become even half of the deputy and man that he was. He was my little brother, but I the oldest brother, looked up to him. God speed and rest Josh, I love you. God Bless JPSO, my family, both my brothers, and all of you.

U are a hero! Your job on earth may be done but I know you will always walk the beat in Heaven. Watch over our brothers as they continue where you left off.

Someone killed a police officer today,
And a part of America died.
A piece of out country he swore to protect
Will be buried with him at his side
The suspect who shot him will stand up in court
With counsel demanding his rights
While a young widowed mother must work for her kids
And spend alone many long nights.

The Beat that he walked was a battlefield, too,
Just as if he’d gone off to war.
Thought the flag of out nation won’t fly at half-mast,
To his name, they will add a gold star.
Yes, somebody killed a policeman today.
It happened in your town and mine.
While we sleep in comfort behind out locked doors,
A cop put his life on the line.

Now his ghost walks a beat on a dark city street,
And he stands at each new rookie’s side.
He answered the call and gave his all,
And a part of America dies.

Another Officer paid the ultimate sacrifice with his life he now belongs to the the group that is called the elite officers
association where all of these brave men have sacrificed their lives to protect the people they swore to serve. So today we all shed a tear for the loss of a young unselfish dedicated officer who was just doing his job.

May God Bless his family and the brothers and sisters of the Jefferson Parish Sheriffs Office.

Josh,
At a time like this, I try to remember the good times. I think of us joking around in the Academy or during our months together at JPCC. You will be sorely missed by all of your friends and family, and I believe that we are all better for having known you. For now, just know that you helped make the world a better place.
God speed brother. Until we meet again...

"LET US HONOR THOSE AMERICAN HEROES WHO HAVE FALLEN IN THE LINE OF DUTY SO THAT WE MAY REMAIN FREE!"

The Final Inspection
Author: Unknown

The policeman stood and faced his God, which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining, just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, policeman, How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek? To My church have you been true?"
The policeman squared his shoulders and said, "No, Lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry badges can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays, and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent, because the streets are awfully tough.
But I never took a penny, that wasn't mine to keep....
Though I worked a lot of overtime, when the bills got just too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help, though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me, I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place, among the people here.
They never wanted me around, except to calm their fear.
If you've a place for me here, Lord, it needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much, but if you don't.....I'll understand.
There was silence all around the throne, where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly, for the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now, policeman, you've borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets, you've done your time in hell."

Rest in peace my brother!
