Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Joshua Everett Norris

You will be missed. I will always remember the times we had laughing and joking with each other, you were so easy to get along with and well respected. I remember talking with you and you saying how excited you were to go to the road. You will always be remembered as a hero to me. Brother you will never be forgotten.

Deputy R. Giovengo III

May God bless you and your family. You will never be forgotten. Blessed are the peacemakers for they protect the kingdom of God.

If Tears Could Build A Stairway

If tears could build a stairway
And memories were a lane
We would walk right up to Heaven
And bring you back again

No farewell words were spoken
No time to say goodbye
You were gone before we knew it
And only God knows why

Our hearts still ache in sadness
And secret tears still flow
What it meant to lose you
No one will ever know

But now we know you want us
To mourn for you no more
To remember all the happy times
Life still has much in store

Since you’ll never be forgotten
We pledge to you today
A hallowed place within our hearts
Is where you’ll always stay

R.I.P. brother,we will take it from here.
May God watch over your family and friends and bring them peace in knowing that you now enjoy your reward in heaven.

I too was a JPSO rookie at the ripe old age of 20 yrs old in Jan. 1985. I got my start in the old third district. I was so pleased as I have heard you were to get my unit even though it had over 100,000 miles on it. I like you followed family into law enforcement. Like you I was so pleased to be "cut loose" and over the FTO program. I was ready to kick butt and take names. I am also like your family members, a police survivor. The family member I followed, my father was killed in a line of duty traffic accident in Feb 1986 after 38 years on the job. So I too know the unbearable pain of losing a love one not only as a brother in blue, but as a immediate family member. Shortly after that, I lost a dear friend and former FTO from JPSO, Kathy Briscoe. She was lost assisting another deputy while off duty. you will have your day, a day that you richly deserve, too many police cars to count, lights blazing sirens screaming will escort you. Hundreds of your brothers will stand at attention saluting you. A 21 gun salute will blast out in respect for you. A chilling, heart numbing tune, "Taps" will be played for you. Your precious love ones will receive the Flag. There will not be a dry eye left. Saint Michael the chief of police in heaven will greet you at the pearly gates and welcome you to Saint Peter's district. Your brothers here will not rest until the low life responsible pays (if the coward lives). You will not be gone nor forgotten. For your strength and courage will live on to inspire every new deputy, every police officer everywhere. You got the call, you gave your all, and it was more than enough. So prop your feet up and take a load off up there. But keep an ear to the radio so that when your brother's number is called you can meet them at the gate with a cup of coffee and a smile. Oh and put in a good word for me up there, I like nights off.

former JPSO currently LSP

When the Lord was creating peace officers, he was into his sixth day ofovertime when an angel appeared and said, "You're doing a lot of fiddling around on this one." And the Lord said, "Have you read the specs on thisorder?
A peace officer has to be able to run five miles through alleys in the dark, scale walls, enter homes the health inspector wouldn't touch, and not wrinkle his uniform.
"He has to be able to sit in an undercover car all day on a stakeout, cover a homicide scene that night, canvass the neighborhood for witnesses, andtestify in court the next day.
"He has to be in top physical condition at all times, running on black coffeeand half-eaten meals. And he has to have six pairs of hands."
The angel shook her head slowly and said, "Six pairs of hands... no way."
"It's not the hands that are causing me problems," said the Lord, "it's thethree pairs of eyes an officer has to have."
"That's on the standard model?" asked the angel.
The Lord nodded. One pair that sees through a bulge in a pocket before heasks, "May I see what's in there, sir?" (When he already knows and wisheshe'd taken that accounting job.) "Another pair here in the side of his headfor his partners' safety. And another pair of eyes here in front that can look reassuringly at a bleeding victim and say, 'You'll be all right ma'am,when he knows it isn't so."
"Lord," said the angel, touching his sleeve, "rest and work on this tomorrow."
"I can't," said the Lord, "I already have a model that can talk a 250 pound drunk into a patrol car without incident and feed a family of five on a civilservice paycheck."
The angel circled the model of the peace officer very slowly, "Can it think?"she asked.
"You bet," said the Lord. "It can tell you the elements of a hundred crimes;recite Miranda warnings in its sleep; detain, investigate, search, and arresta gang member on the street in less time than it takes five learned judges todebate the legality of the stop... and still it keeps its sense of humor.
This officer also has phenomenal personal control. He can deal with crimescenes painted in hell, coax a confession from a child abuser, comfort amurder victim's family, and then read in the daily paper how law enforcementisn't sensitive to the rights of criminal suspects."
Finally, the angel bent over and ran her finger across the cheek of the peaceofficer. "There's a leak,"she pronounced. "I told you that you were trying toput too much into this model."
"That's not a leak," said the lord, "it's a tear."
"What's the tear for?" asked the angel.
"It's for bottled-up emotions, for fallen comrades, for commitment to thatfunny piece of cloth called the American flag, for justice."
"You're a genius," said the angel.
The Lord looked somber. "I didn't put it there," he said.

We offer our heartfelt sympathy to the family, friends and colleagues of Deputy Norris and we honor his distinguished service to the cause of justice and peace. Sadly, our nation has lost one of its finest citizens, a community has lost a friend and protector, and a family has lost an example of character and courage who they will love and respect forever. Today, because of the sacrifice Deputy Norris has made, the house of freedom is stronger, sturdier, and more secure.

To the family and friends of Deputy Norris, I would like you to know that a lot of people pray for you, and my hope is that their prayers will give you the strength necessary to move on. Just as you were always with him when he walked the beat or patrolled the streets, know that he will always be with you - wherever you may be. In the days to follow, may you be strengthened by the fact that Deputy Norris is a man distinguished by exceptional courage and will always be admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities. You, your family and your sacrifice will never be forgotten.

It's hard to believe that just a week ago I was talking to you in intake @ the CC and you were telling me how happy you were to finally be on your own and that you have your own unit (eventhough it was a clunker). And now we are all sitting here leaving our memories and prayers for you. You were one of the best deputies in the medical dept. @ the CC. You will truly be missed by all. I am honored to have known such a great man and friend as yourself. You have given a new meaning to "The Fallen Hero"

May you always rest in peace.

I REMEMBER AS A BRAND NEW POLICE OFFICER, "I KNEW" I COULD CHANGE THE WORLD. I COULD RIGHT EVERY WRONG. LOCK UP ALL THE BAD GUYS AND I WORE A BIG S ON MY CHEST. LATER THAT EVOLVED TO "I THOUGHT" I COULD CHANGE THE WORLD AND ULTIMATELY "HOPED" THAT I COULD CHANGE THE WORLD. THIS YOUNG MAN STILL "KNEW" HE COULD CHANGE THE WORLD AND HE CERTAINLY HAS. HE HAS MADE AN IMPACT ON ALL POLICE OFFICERS THROUGHOUT THE COUNTRY. I NEVER KNEW THIS YOUNG HERO, BUT HE SURELY WAS THE TYPE OF MAN I WOULD HAVE BY MY SIDE, AS REFLECTED BY THOSE WHO KNEW HIM. I WILL NOT CRY FOR THIS HERO, YET I WILL REMEBER HIM ALWAYS AND TRY TO CARRY ON THE GOOD WORK HE HAS STARTED. WE ARE ALL APPOINTED BY OUR LORD, JESUS CHRIST, AS POLICE OFFICERS AND I HOLD STRONG TO THAT, KNOWING THAT DEPUTY NORRIS FULFILLED GOD'S APPOINTMENT. GOD BLESS DEPUTY NORRIS' FAMILY AND FRIENDS AND KNOW THAT YOU CAN CALL UPON ME FOR ANY NEED.
