Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Joshua Everett Norris

To the family of Josh Norris,

As I watched "Rookies" the other night it reminded my of my early days learing to be an officer. I would have loved to have gone 10-41 with Josh on my shift. I was truly shocked with the ending, as Josh made the ultimate sacrafice to protect the citizens of Jefferson Parrish. All I can do is pray for Josh and his family. Rest in peace brother. Keep the streets of heaven safe.

Josh god must have had a higher plan for you, that many of us may not understand, and will never. I pray that your family has peace, knowing that you were a brave soul to even work in the law enforcement field. Just from watching the rookie series of you, I observed you to be a very honest, humbel, greatful, and caring being. Your family has a lot to be proud of, these attributes are not found too much in our society. I feel great sadness, and a great sense of loss, in your untimely death. Even though I never had the priviledge to meet you, I feel as if I have lost a family member. I shedded tears of sorrow, while watching the rookie seies showing you, and continue to pray each and every day since, for you and your family. I stand in "AWE" of your bravery, and sense of duty to your community, and wish to one day meet you in heaven. You're one of the few that can be called a true "Hero". May you watch over us all.

I just finished watching the episode of the Rookies with Josh Norris. I was shocked at the ending. I knew something was not right when his former FTO started talking about Josh going to the domestic dispute call. I thought perhaps he was going to say that Josh did a wonderful job on the call, or something to that nature. Never in a million years would I have suspected the words I saw on the screen that Josh had been shot and killed. May he rest in peace. May happy memories of his life help to console his family, friends, and brotherhood of officers all over the Country. Take a moment to stop and think of the sacrifices these officers make every day to keep us safe. GOD BLESS.

May God Bless you, and your trainers. May you rest in peace, and rest knowing that you touched so many lives with your story. I am a better officer and trainer because of you. I am indebted to you, and I know that your sacrifice was not in vain.

Deputy Norris,
You are a hero, and I pray that you and your family know the value of your service as a deputy. Your story broke me up, but I am positive that your life and death has affected many officers and prospective officers in ways that will save lives.

i was just about asleep when Josh's episode of rookies came on. I'm glad i stayed up, i didn't sleep that night. Out of all the professions in the world a man can choose for himself none amazes me more than Police Officer. And what i saw in Josh Norris to me epitomizes the essence of what it means to serve.I saw a willingness to do the right thing once thought lost on this generation, yet clearly is alive and well. I saw something else often celebrated yet rarely accomplished. I didn't see a natural born Police officer I saw a young man that wanted something so bad he could overcome anything to get where he wanted to be. To me this is a far more respectable quality than any other. I remember thinking to myself and even saying to myself as Deputy Norris received his own patrol unit, that i would love to see this young man in two or three years. If he had come that far in little more than a month i could only imagine what a few years could do. We as a people were robbed of that. as citizens we sometimes forget what our heroes are willing to give for us. Josh Norris will forever be in my mind a stark reminder of this sacrifice. I'd like to also humbly thank the family of this hero. I do not know you, i did not know Josh. But i have seen you, in his actions, in the way he sought to serve his fellow man, in the way he sacrificed all he had for what he loved. I know nothing anyone can say could lessen the loss of a child, brother, future husband or friend. But I can honestly tell you a nation grieves with you and prays for you. I pray you can find peace in the knowledge that Josh lives forever as an inspiration to every kid that will ever grow up to live a dream.

I feel there is a special place in Heaven for the souls of those lost in service to their Community and Country. As the words were displayed over the pan out from your patrol car, I got a sinking feeling that something was going to take a dark turn. I didn't expect to be blindsided by your death. I'm still crying and didn't even know you.

You had such a promising future in store for you. I know I have a deeper respect for the men in blue!

My wife and I had just starting watching "Rookies" and learned of the untimely death of Joshua Norris. My heart and thoughts go out to all who knew him and loved him. There is no greater loss than to lose a member of a community who is out there to make it a better place.

I was viewing A&E's series "Rookies" last night. This episode highlighted Deputy Norris's FTO time with Deputy Bostic and I cannot remember the name of the other FTO.

It immediately struck me, that this Deputy looked so incredibly young and just out of high school. I did not know his age until reading the ODMP information on him.

As a former dispatcher for 14 yrs, I immediately knew when the show aired the engagement with his fiancee' on 7/4 and then that he had responded to a domestic dispute on 7/5, the very next night, I had a very sick feeling inside that he lost his life. I cried over and over for such a wonderful young man and a promising career and life with his wife to be.

To his family, friends and the Jefferson Parish Sheriffs Office, I am so very sorry for your loss. Deputy Norris's sacrifice will never be forgotten and his courage to perform his duties without hesitation in trying to protect the citizens of your township. He will always be that angel looking down on all of you and taking care of you.

God Bless You All.

I just saw "Rookies" for the second time. Every time I see your performance on the show I get very proud to see young Josh again and cry at the end.

I have wanted to become an officer for years but never get the opportunity. I just made "45 years" and by watching your episode, you give me the desire to not to give up on my dream.

To the parents of Joshua, Your son is an inspiration to all of us! So sorry for yor loss!

Deputy Norris, I saw your episode on the television show "Rookies" early this morning when I came home off evening shift. Before my wife left out on her shift, we watched you as a new officer through some of your training with your fto's. My wife left out for her shift and I read the ending of the episode that you were shot and killed. I immediately called my wife and we both cried uncontrollably. I was so hurt, I couldn't believe that you were killed. I've trained many rookies in the past and I saw that same eager look in your eyes that I saw in their eyes. That young, new inexperienced look most rookies carry with them. You were a great new officer and I'm sure you would've done many great things. My wife and I are sadden by your death and it reinforces the thought that there are many selfish and evil people in this world. I'll go to work tonight and you'll be the only thing on my mind when I deal with the many selfish people I'll come in contact with. You gave your life like many other officers (Irma Lozada New York City Transit Police EOW 9/21/84, Maria Cecilia Rosa Los Angeles County Sheriff EOW 3/28/06) and for that you'll always be someone we'll never forget. Thank you for your service and dedication. GODBLESS DEPUTY NORRIS AND HIS FAMILY. Sgt. Tiffany Washington Metro Transit Police

To the Family, Fellow Officers, and Friends of Deputy Josh Norris:
I saw an episode of "Rookies" last night, the episode about Josh. I said prayers to Saint Michael for him afterward. I am a Texas Police Officer now, but I patrolled Jefferson Parish as a State Trooper many years ago. I retired from there and came here to Texas to begin a second police career, but my heart is still there in Jefferson Parish, because of my fellow Officers, fine and honorable Police Officers like Deputy Joshua Norris. I will never forget the honorable service and sacrifice made by Josh Norris, and I will begin this Sunday to always light a candle at each Mass for Josh. God bless you all, and God bless Deputy Joshua Norris. Respects from Jerry, a Texas Police Officer.
