Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Joshua Everett Norris

Deputy Norris,

I saw the show last night, and I was extremely sad to see the ending. As a police officer myself, we all pride ourselves on going out and doing the best job we can everyday. The reality is, none of us NONE OF US will ever be as much of a hero as you are. You my friend gave the ultimate sacrafice for the most awesome job in the world. I commend you for an excellent job, and I thank you for every minute of service that you gave to your agency and to law enforcement in general. God bless your family and your fiance'. From your brother in blue - rest in peace.

Josh,

I just saw your episode "Rookies." At the end of the show when it was giving your updates, I had a sick feeling when I saw you were dispatched to a domestic disturbance. My feeling was confirmed when I learned what had happened.

Rest in peace brother, we have the watch now.

Saw the show and thought how much you reminded me of myself at your age. You look like any of the officers I have met over the years. I wish you had had the opportunity to feel the feelings and see the sights we all have experienced.

God bless you and your family.

Well Josh,
Another birthday without you is coming soon. It's so hard to grasp that you really aren't here sometimes. When that momentary lapse in real time overcomes me, the wake to reality hurts all over again and the tears flow while the heart just wants to stop beating. I see pictures or video of you and smile while I cry ... it's mixed emotional reactions of happiness to see you again and sadness that it's the only way I can now.

The family and some friends will be celebrating your 24th birthday at Adam's house on Sunday afternoon ... BBQ steaks on your grill and a visit to see you. I put a little memorial in the paper for Sunday to remember the day you were placed in my arms 24 years ago. Such a small miracle that God blessed me with. Just wish He had let me keep you a little longer, but I'm sure He had something more important for you to do. I wanted so much more for you and I know you had bigger plans, but I am grateful that you saw so many of your goals happen.

We all miss you here so much, but no one can miss you more than your Mom ... I hope someday that I can be where you are. You can give me the Heavenly tour.

Happy Birthday, My HERO.

Love,
Mom

Deputy Norris,

My name is Brandon Meyer a rookie cop with the Dewey Police Department here in Oklahoma. April 1, 2009 I start my first day in the field flying solo. Just like you all I have ever wanted was to be a cop. My dad is a cop and my little brother will soon be a cop as well. Thank you for being a hero not just to the world, and not just to your family, but to rookie cops such as myself.

I am also a new deputy to law enforcement, and I must say that I was crushed, to see that someone had taken your life before you really got a chance to live your dreams. I admire and respect you, and look forward to meeting you in heaven someday. My prayers will be with those who love you, and those who have been impacted by your departure into rest. Thank you for showing great courage, peace be with you my brother.

Well Boy

It's carnival time again, be the first year I have not worked it and feels pretty good. The weather has been a mix between rain and just cold weather, so you know I do not miss being on the bike. Still have not gone to a parade, and since retiring Beth has not asked about going. Jess is riding again this year and Tara, Matt And lil Matt should be in town for Mardi Gras Day, which means I will have to breakdown and go see it as a civilian. Beth and I still wonder what it would be like if Jul 5th 2007 would had passed as just a another normal day. We try to be up beat, but seems that life has this hole left empty with you leaving. Take care up their and be good son

I did not know of Deputy norris until i was watching the tv show rookies one night. As a seven year veteran in police work me and a fellow officer were enjoying the show and reflecting on our times as rookie officers and some of the stuff we were put through. We were enjoying the show until the end when they explained how Deputy norris was killed. In June 2008 i lost a fellow officer and dear friend in a car accident. It makes me sad to see another officer lose his life, but to the family of Deputy norris i hope you find comfort in the fact that Deputy norris was a true hero. May God Bless the family and co-workers of Joshua Norris. Blessed are the Peacemakers, for they will be called the sons of GOD!!!

Josh
Well boy been trying to make sure I keep up and leaving reflections for those that have fallen and are listed on this site. So may reached out when we lost you and still are, feel we need to do the same in your behalf. Today came across another Josh (Joshua Broadway EOW Jan 25th 2009) and looking at his picture and the amount time he had on the force and fact he was also engaged, my heart broke all over again. Wish I could leave something for his fiancée which will help her broken heart, but since seeing my daughter still hurting not sure if there is anything one can do or say. Boy your absence is felt everyday and I can not stop thinking what could have been. Take care son and welcome Josh Broadway to his new district.

Just watched the 'Rookies' episode here in the UK. To see the pride on your face when you were given the keys to your Cruiser by your FTO was great.

However, the end credits put a great big damper on things and I was stunned to say the least.

You paid the ultimate price to help others and to that end your community and department should be very proud.

Deputy Norris, I just started watching the show Rookies the other day. First episode I ever saw was yours. I was shocked and saddened when the end of the show was shown. I couldn't believe it. I heard goes out to your family, and friends. May your brothers drive on with their mission, and make sure your watch is covered. Rest in Peace brother.

I was saddened to learn of this loss on the Rookies program. He seemed like a good young deputy with a bright future. I mourn your loss and wish you God's grace. May God always uphold you in His love now and forever.

Your son and fiance had chosen an honorable profession and gave the ultimate sacrifice any man can give.

My deepest sympathy and prayers for all of you.

I just watched your episode of Rookies, "Jefferson: My Name on a Plaque."

Your life was cut so short by this senseless act. And seeing this episode 18 months after your death was a rather somber momemt.

Your watch is covered, we'll take it from here. Someday, in heaven, I want to spend time with all of my fellow brothers and sisters who paid the ultimate price in service to their communities. RIP Deputy Norris. Your loss is not in vain.
