Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Michael Page

Deputy Page,

I spoke with my grandmother who lives in your jurisdiciton. She told me how she would see you from time to time serving her community. She was very sad to hear that you had lost your life and I am too. I wish I had been able to meet the hero who watched over my grndmother and thank you in person. It is so sad that it takes a loss to learn of those who take care of our families. I want to take this opportunity to say thank you to you and your family and friends who all sacrificed for your service. I also pray for the proteciton of those you have left behind, that they will have a hero like you to protect them. You have paid the ultimate sacrifice and we are in debt to you. Rest in peace dear brother and God Bless.

Mike,
It has been a little over a week since you left us, but the days seem like years. I wanted to say THANKS for your friendship. I miss your practical jokes, and your laughs. We had a lot of them. You were a good police officer, but even more important, you were a good man, and the best friend anyone could have ever asked for. Those of us who new you were lucky, and privileged to do so. Your family was your world, and I'll never forget the love that you had for them. I thank them for sharing you with us.
Rest easy my friend. I will never forget you.
To your family, I'll be praying for you. Mike is always with you now, doing what he always tried to do and that's watching over you.
When something out of the ordinary happens, that can't be explained, but makes me laugh, I'll know it's you Mike. Thanks for the goodtimes, and the memories.

Tragedies like this one are never easily understood. We are so gracious that there are people of character and courage like Deputy Page in this world to help protect us all. May his family, friends, and colleagues be blessed in their attempt to deal with this tragic event.

Godspeed to you Deputy Page and thank you so much for serving our profession with dignity and bravery.

“Now cracks a noble heart. Good night, sweet prince, and flights of angels sing thee to thy rest."

Page,
It has been over a week now, and slowly the heeling process has begun. There doesn't seem to be as much traffic on the radio's, and the tears don't fall as often. I still go to the Court House early and make coffee, and then stand outside waiting for whoever is working the West end with me. When Lonnie, Gary, or Russell show up, we have our morning talk, collect civil pappers, and then hit the road. I know each one of us hesitates just a little, hoping that you would pull up. I never would have let you go, had I known you weren't coming back. I find peace in knowing that you will be with me, Rob, Mike, Gary, Lonnie, and Russell every day now. I'm proud to have been your Supervisor, but most of all I'm proud to have been your friend. We have it from here, God Bless you, and may you rest in peace.

A POLICEMAN'S PRAYER
BROTHER WHEN YOU WEEP FOR ME REMEMBER THAT IT WAS MEANT TO BE.
LAY ME DOWN AND WHEN YOU LEAVE REMEMBER I'LL BE AT YOUR SIDE...IN EVERY DARK AND DREARY ALLEY I'LL BE THERE AS YOU SLOWLY TREAD, ON EVERY STREET CORNER IN THE DRIVING SNOW I'LL HOLD YOUR COAT AND YOU WILL KNOW.
IN PLACES WHERE THE DEVIL IS AFRAID TO WALK...
AT DOORS WHERE YOU MEET RESISTANCE...
IN HOUSES WHERE CHILDREN HIDE...
YOU KNOW I'LL BE AT YOUR SIDE.
THE PLACE FROM WHICH I NOW RESPOND IS OVERSTAFFED WITH HEROES GONE...MEN WHO ANSWERED ONE LAST JOB AND DID IT WELL.
AS POLICEMEN WE UNDERSTAND THAT THIS IS A CARD DEALT IN OUR HAND...A CARD WE HOPE WE NEVER PLAY BUT WE HOLD IT THERE ANYWAY.
THE CARD IS SOMETHING WE IGNORE AS WE STAND ON THAT THIN BLUE LINE EVERY TOUR...FOR WE KNOW THAT WE ARE THE ONLY PRAYER FOR MANY OUT THERE.
SO REMEMBER, AS YOU WIPE YOUR TEARS, THE JOY I HAVE KNOWN THROUGHOUT THE YEARS...AS THE JOB I LOVED TO DO I PRAY THAT THIS THOUGHT WILL SEE YOU THROUGH.

Page, The last time you and I talked was at the Bowie County Courthouse the night before you departed us. You asked me if A-1 auto salvage had a bumper for my new dodge charger because you just tore mine off. You also had to go get 2 cups of coffee and walked out with both of them after we had talked about our family's and what we were going to do for the weekend. To his family.... He had no greater love than his family and talked about them often. To all of the people who responded that night and the next morning, I think i can speak for the whole dept. and say thank you and thank all you for the prayers. We were told tonight to write something down that it might help in the healing process and so far it's working. The quote that summed it up the best was " It was not how you died that made you a hero but the life you lived here on earth that made you the hero that everyone of us will remember. Gap #309

To the family, friends, and officers that knew Deputy Page, my thoughts and prayers are with you as you face the trying times ahead of you. Please know your not alone.

Here I am, lost in the light of the moon that comes through my window
Bathed in blue, the walls of my memory divide the thorns from the roses
It's you and the roses

Touch me and I will follow in your afterglow
Heal me from all this sorrow
As I let you go I will find my way when I see your eyes
Now I'm living in your afterglow

Here I am, lost in the ashes of time, but who wants tomorrow?
In between the longing to hold you again
I'm caught in your shadow, I'm losing control
My mind drifts away, we only have today

Touch me and I will follow in your afterglow
Heal me from all this sorrow
As I let you go I will find my way
I will sacrifice 'til the blinding day when I see your eyes
Now I'm living in your afterglow

When the veils are gone as I let you go, as I let you go

Touch me and I will follow in your afterglow
Heal me from all this sorrow
As I let you go I will find my way, I will sacrifice
Now I'm living in your afterglow

Bathed in blue, the walls of my memory divide the thorns from the roses
It's you who is closest

Mikey, where do I even begin? I know we all wish we could turn back the hands of time and still have you here with us, but we must find peace in knowing that GOD has much bigger plans for you in Heaven. You were such a wonderful person to all those around you. We always knew we could count on you for a good laugh. There was defnietly never a dull moment with you around. You were a wonderful husband, father, son, brother, friend and a great police officer. You will defnietly not be forgotten.
