There are no words to express how I feel. Just know that I thought of you like a father . You taught me so much about law enforcement. I will forever remember the time we worked together. Rest in Peace "Big Randy".

Somebody Killed A Policeman Today

Somebody killed a policeman today and
A part of America died.
A piece of our country that he swore to protect
Will be buried with him at his side.

The suspect who shot him will stand up in court
With counsel demanding his rights,
While a young widowed mother must work for her kids
And spend many long lonely nights.

The beat that he walked was a battlefield too,
Just as if he had gone off to war.
Though the flag of our nation won't fly at half mast,
To his name they will add a gold star

Yes, somebody killed a policeman today,
It happened in your town or mine.
While we slept in comfort behind our locked doors,
A cop put his life on the line.

Now his ghost walks a beat on a dark city street,
And he stands at each rookie's side.
He answered the call, and he gave us his all,
And a part of America died!

It has been many years since I have seen Randy--as so often happens, I grew up, got married, and moved away. Even so, I still remember him very fondly, and I am so sorry that this man has been taken from his loved ones in such an untimely fashion. He and the rest of the Lacy men in the service of Powell County are wonderful men--friendly, happy, and funny fellows, always quick with a joke and quick to help someone in need. Randy will be sorely missed by all, and I am very sorry I did not know him better.
