Rest in peace my brother. We respond to loud party calls day and day out. And then someone does somthing so foolish to one of us that is there to keep the peace. Well I have never met you but I know you by doing the same job and it could have been me or any other officer. We never know what can happen when we respond to calls. My heart goes out to your family, but keep in mind you are a hero in my eyes and others because who else would go to these calls but people like us and risk our lives for everyones safety. Rest in peace my brother.

To the family of Officer West,
I know there are no words to make you feel better but please take comfort in knowing that people from around the world are grieving with you. There is nothing sadder than losing a loved one except for losing him in this way...at the hands of some dirtbag. Don't worry the dirt bag will get his in onw way or another. Even though you are going through something that no one should ever have to go through and it feels like the tears will never end hold your head high as the tears fall and be extra proud of your son. He is a TRUE HERO and evryone knows that Heroes live forever!!

To the Cleveland Heights Police Department,
All of you have lost a beloved family member also. I know it will be very difficult to go back to work for some time. Please know that everyone is grieving with all of you also. I know that you wil keep Offiecr West alive with all of the stories you will be telling about him in the coming months-and I KNOW you wil be doing this-I've been there before. I will be covering my badge as soon as I get to work in honor of Officer West.

My thoughts and prayers go out to each and every one of you.

HEROES LIVE FOREVER and MEMORIES NEVER DIE!

A POLICEMAN'S PRAYER
BROTHER WHEN YOU WEEP FOR ME REMEMBER THAT IT WAS MEANT TO BE.
LAY ME DOWN AND WHEN YOU LEAVE REMEMBER I'LL BE AT YOUR SIDE...IN EVERY DARK AND DREARY ALLEY I'LL BE THERE AS YOU SLOWLY TREAD, ON EVERY STREET CORNER IN THE DRIVING SNOW I'LL HOLD YOUR COAT AND YOU WILL KNOW.
IN PLACES WHERE THE DEVIL IS AFRAID TO WALK...
AT DOORS WHERE YOU MEET RESISTANCE...
IN HOUSES WHERE CHILDREN HIDE...
YOU KNOW I'LL BE AT YOUR SIDE.
THE PLACE FROM WHICH I NOW RESPOND IS OVERSTAFFED WITH HEROES GONE...MEN WHO ANSWERED ONE LAST JOB AND DID IT WELL.
AS POLICEMEN WE UNDERSTAND THAT THIS IS A CARD DEALT IN OUR HAND...A CARD WE HOPE WE NEVER PLAY BUT WE HOLD IT THERE ANYWAY.
THE CARD IS SOMETHING WE IGNORE AS WE STAND ON THAT THIN BLUE LINE EVERY TOUR...FOR WE KNOW THAT WE ARE THE ONLY PRAYER FOR MANY OUT THERE.
SO REMEMBER, AS YOU WIPE YOUR TEARS, THE JOY I HAVE KNOWN THROUGHOUT THE YEARS...AS THE JOB I LOVED TO DO I PRAY THAT THIS THOUGHT WILL SEE YOU THROUGH.

How many more names must we add. Those that criticize and berade us are the first to call us when they "need help". Most of the time it is to straighten out what they started anyway. They are the first to question what took us so long to get to them. They are also the first ones to forget when one of our brothers gives his life for them, so that they may go one with their night. They will not bat an eye or loose an hour sleep over our loss. WE will NOT FORGET though. Everytime we answer that radio call, make that car stop, engage in that foot pursuit...we will remember Officer Jason West and all the heroes in his company. May the Lord watch over his family, friends, and fellow officers.
