Leave a Reflection

Reflections for State Constable Robert Lee Bailey

I am so very sad that this happened to you, I can only imagine the feeling of fear and how alone you must of felt. You are now at rest and your brothers can carry on the fight.
To Constable Bailey's co-workers, you are all in my prayers and you should be proud of the work you did in finding your fellow brother and putting him to rest as well as getting the animals that did this to him.

To the family of Constable Bailey, you are all in my prayers as well. I know this is a difficult time, but know that your loved one is safe now and be proud of the man he was. He gave so many years to keeping his town safe and his family safe, he is a true Hero.

Constable Bailey will be sorely missed by all who knew him and those of us in the Law Enforcement Community. The circumstances surrounding his murder have shocked all of us. May God bless and keep his family and support those who knew him.

The policeman stood and faced God,

Which must always come to pass.

He hoped his shoes were shining,

Just as brightly as his brass.

"Step forward now, policeman.

How shall I deal with you?

Have you always turned the other cheek?

To my church have you been true?"

The policeman squared his shoulders and said,

"No lord, I guess I ain't,

Because those of us who carry a badge

can't always be a saint."

I've had to work most Sundays,

and at times my talk was rough,

and sometimes I've been violent,

Because the streets are awfully tough.

But I never took a penny,

That wasn't mine to keep

Though I worked a lot of overtime

When the bills got just too steep.

And I never passed a cry for help,

Though at time I shook with fear.

And sometimes, God forgive me,

I've wept unmanly tears.

I know I don't deserve a place

Among the people here.

They never wanted me around

Except to calm their fear.

If you've a place for me here, Lord,

It needn't be so grand.

I never expected or had too much,

But if you don't I'll understand.

There was a silence all around the throne

Where the saints had often trod.

As the policeman waited quietly,

For the judgement of his god.

"Step forward now, policeman,

You've born your burdens well.

Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,

You've done your time in hell"

Sgt. Justin K. Nevels
Clinton P.D.

Sir,
I have been an officer for 3 years and hope to serve HALF the time you served on the force. 43 years? Wow, you are a true hero, thank you for your service. You will be missed and I hope that the cowards who took your life will get what they deserve. My heart goes out to you and your family in these difficult times. Rest in peace.

I had prayed for your safe return. And when that did not happened I cried. I never knew you personally I am angry as to how you lost your life. It was so senseless. I am praying for your loved ones as well as for your fellow officers. But sir I hope someday to meet you face to face in Heaven and thank you for a job well done. May you rest in peace.

This is my shield,I bear it before me into battle, but it is not mine alone. It protects my brother on my left. It protects my city. I will never let my brother out of it's shadow nor my city out of it's shelter. I will die with my shield before me facing the enemy. To serve and protect was your oath, to honor you is our duty.

I am just a civilian from Ohio but I have a special place in my heart for all law enforcement officers. If it weren't for a police officer I wouldn't be here today to write this.
It makes me sick to know that the people that did this to you breath the same air that I breath. They will pay their dues. They will pay by burning in hell for eternity. To the family friends and fellow officers of Constable Bailey, my heart goes out to you. I will keep you in my prayers.
To you Constable Bailey, THANK YOU for your service. Your actions and dedication will never be forgotten. Rest in peace, Sir, your brothers and sisters in blue will take your watch from here. Your assignment now is walking the streets of heaven. Keep us safe.
