I've known Marvin (Deputy Scarlett) since our high school days and I'm also a fellow law enforcement officer.

I was deeply saddened when a friend of mine informed me of his death. I immediately telephoned my mother and father, who remembered Marv as a "great kid" who was always welcomed in our household. [Marv loved my Mom's Italian cooking.]

My thoughts were then of Marv's wife and four children and the suddenness of this whole thing. I said a prayer for God to provide them strength in coping with their loss.

The Marv I knew was a good person who always did the right thing. I'm know he carried that into his law enforcement career and also his family life. He will be missed by all who really knew him.

The Cerione family's thoughts and prayers will continue to go out to the Scarlett family.

To one of the kindest, gentlest, coolest persons I’ve ever had the pleasure of knowing. Although it’s been awhile since we’ve seen each other last, looking at your Deputy picture brings back wonderful memories of a wonderful MAN. Whether it was fishing in the lakes of Tallahassee or cheering for our favorite college football teams in the Orange Bowl you were always laughing and making everyone around you happy. Your infectious smile would brighten a room…and that will certainly be missed.

Save me a good seat in heaven, my friend, because I want to watch every FSU vs.UM game with you!!

My sincere thoughts and prayers go out to the Scarlett family and their friends. May the lord give you strength during these trying times.

"RIP" brother, may your memory and sacrifice never fade. See/ya on the flip/flop.

SGT R, BUCHHOLZ

The policeman stood and faced God,

Which must always come to pass.

He hoped his shoes were shining,

Just as brightly as his brass.

"Step forward now, policeman.

How shall I deal with you?

Have you always turned the other cheek?

To my church have you been true?"

The policeman squared his shoulders and said,

"No lord, I guess I ain't,

Because those of us who carry a badge

can't always be a saint."

I've had to work most Sundays,

and at times my talk was rough,

and sometimes I've been violent,

Because the streets are awfully tough.

But I never took a penny,

That wasn't mine to keep

Though I worked a lot of overtime

When the bills got just too steep.

And I never passed a cry for help,

Though at time I shook with fear.

And sometimes, God forgive me,

I've wept unmanly tears.

I know I don't deserve a place

Among the people here.

They never wanted me around

Except to calm their fear.

If you've a place for me here, Lord,

It needn't be so grand.

I never expected or had too much,

But if you don't I'll understand.

There was a silence all around the throne

Where the saints had often trod.

As the policeman waited quietly,

For the judgement of his god.

"Step forward now, policeman,

You've born your burdens well.

Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,

You've done your time in hell"

Sgt. Justin Nevels
Clinton Police Dept.
