Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Tony Price Ogburn

I was trained by Tony when I went to work at Henderson Co.
I was a detention officer and worked on the same shift with Tony. I enjoyed working with him.he trained me in a very professional way and I learned how to do things by the book. Tony was my friend and I will miss him.
God Bless all his family.

I come to the ODMP often to remember my late fiancé Dennis. Everytime I come here it breaks my heart to know that yet another officer has fallen and that yet another family has to live their lives without the man they loved. My heart goes out to everyone who knew and loved Deputy Ogburn, especially to his wife. Know that you are not alone in the "journey" that you walk. Should you ever need anything please don't hesitate to contact me. The Davis Co. Sheriff's Office in Iowa will always know how to reach me. You will be in my thoughts.

From reading the reflections left for Tony, he sounds like he was a great man with a beautiful spirit. Those of you who knew him in life were so blessed to have been able to share in it. I hope that you will all continue to find a way to celebrate and remember Tony's life and the MAN that he was. Remember that Tony's life was about so much more than the way he died. Tony will continue to live on as long as we continue to remember him.

Deputy Ogburn, thank you for helping to make this world a little safer for us all. YOU will not be forgotten. Please continue to watch over all of us as only you can. If you happen to bump into my late fiancé Dennis up there give him a big hug for me and the kids. It's been almost five years but we still miss him terribly.

Wishing you brighter and better days,

Jocelyne :)

It's been almost three months since you and Paul were taken from us. Thoughts of both of you cross my mind daily, as I am sure they do for everyone else. You are missed dearly at the office. Everything at the bank is running smooth. Thank You for being such a great friend. Until we meet again.

The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

It has been two months since that fateful day in May when you and Paul left us. My friend you and Paul are still sorely missed. "Say it ain't so" was the first thing out of your mouth that fateful day when you saw me sitting in a Caney City Police car for the first time and pulled up to visit. Little did either of us know what was going to happen a few short hours later. "Say it ain't so" was racing through my mind when I pulled onto CR 2529, saw all the cars lined up along the road and heard about you and Paul being shot. In my years of law enforcement the day you two were taken from us was the hardest day ever. Hardest day for a lot of folks. I will remember the conversations we would often have when you would bring me subpoenas or stop by to visit. "If you don't want to have to go to court get out of police work" you would often say adding that officers were the worst ones to drop paper on because they would always get huffy about being served. My friend just to have you come by the house with a subpoena one more time....

To a man words cannot describe. Your kindness, encouragement, christian attitude, love, honesty, loyalty, bravery, intelligence will be missed forever. Because of you I'm where I am today, and I thank you. Always know that even though you were not my real father. In my heart and mind I loved and respected you as if you were. Tony,

I saw your Grandsons last week at a Baseball game I coached against one of them I know you must be very proud of those 2 young men. I shared a talk after the game with little Tony on what high regard I held his Grandaddy It was lets say emotional. I also got to talk with the Randall later. Tony got a big hit against us and I was very happy for him I think he needed it
You and Paul and your families are in our thoughts and prayers every day

JUST AN UPDATE: LITTLE TONY SAID AT HIS BASEBALL GAME, "MAMA, CAN GRANDDADDY SEE ME PLAY BASEBALL?" I ASSURED HIM THAT YOU COULD AND I THINK IT IS HIS DRIVING FORCE ON THE BALL FIELD. RANDALL ASKED ME IF "THE MAILBOX COULD DELIVER A LETTER TO HEAVEN FOR MY GRANDDADDY TO READ". I ASSURED HIM THAT WE WOULD MAIL YOU A LETTER AND IT SEEMS THATS ALL HE CAN TALK ABOUT THESE DAYS. IT IS CERTAINLY NICE TO SEE THEM SMILE MORE OFTEN NOW. RONNY HAD A TALK WITH BOTH OF THE BOYS AND THEY WANTED TO KNOW IF THEY COULD BE HIS BEST FRIEND...... JUST KNOW THAT WITH ALL THAT IS GOING ON YOU ARE STILL A PART OF YOUR GRANDCHILDRENS DAILY LIVES AND WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!!!

Tony,
You will be missed so much by everyone you touched with your life. You were a very compassionate officer and a very wonderful christian man. You showed that it everything you did and said. You were such a wonderful friend and partner to my husband. You also were an inspiration and teacher to my son when you worked with him in the jail. We love you and will miss you very much. We pray everyday that God will give your family the comfort they need to get through this time of grief.
