Richard,

I just came accross this page by accident, your friend Jesse got all of us bumper magnets from the officer down memorial page and I was trying to find the page he ordered them from because mine disappeared in the delta sonic car wash, very upset about that and I must have a new one. I have read all the expressions written here, they are all very touching. I can understand why your friends on here have written and still think about you, anyone who knew you couldnt help but love you. Richard we miss soooooo much, words can not express. I like to believe that you are still in California working and just havent heard from you in awhile but I obviously know different. Your life was cut way too short! I can't beleive it has been 3 years already and we are coming up on 1 year for Dad. Everytime I look at your picture, the only thing I can say is you should still be here with us and then I tear up! I am not too sure about the whole heaven thing but if it really does exist, I hope you and Dad are together with all of the people that have passed on that we knew and loved. Dad could never except your death, you know Ma is a tough cookie, atleast she portrays herself to be one. You were her baby boy and no parent can get over that, I know she thinks of you everyday, as we all do. To those of you who personally knew my brother, were very fortunate and he was very fortunate to have your friendship. He was a very loyal friend, he would give you the shirt off his back without thinking twice and I am sure he is watching over each and everyone of you. Richard I miss your sore losing ways at card games (card games will never be the same), your dimples when you would smile and your laugh that no one could ever immitate..lol..I do wish you would give me a sign letting me know that there is a heaven and that you couldnt be happier. Well until next time, know we love you and miss you everyday.

Love, Laura

Today was a rather difficult day for myself and the entire family,Marking the two yr.Anniversery of my brothers death. We miss him so very much.Days still go by when i still do not believe he is truly gone, but still in California waiting to come home for a visit.Today was a beautiful mass at St. Josephs Cathedral in Buffalo in honor all fallen law enforcement agents.Very nicely done.Days also go by when i wonder about the truth to my brothers drowning.Very hard to believe that Richard would jump in to a canal to rescue his K-9 partner Carlo.I still believe deep in my heart he had a little help. Some day the truth will come out.Richard we Love & miss you so very much!!! Your heroism and service is honored today, the second anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Rest In Peace.

I hold your family in thought and prayer today. How sad it must have been for them to welcome one new family member to the world, and say goodbye to you at the same time.

It was an honor to work with Rich. He was the one that always make you laugh at any given time. You will be missed.

I honor Richard's dedication to his duty and to his K-9 partner as well as to our nation. I lost my best friend/brother Officer Wayne Clark on January 10th, 2006 after twenty three years. We severed together for nineteen years in NJDOC. I hope everyone understands the pride Richard had while doing what he loved. I pray for those he left behind and know that he still love you and will be with you everyday. I understand the pain, but know that the hurt will diminish. It will never stop but his memory will also be yours to keep for ever. Remember his smile and love for you and everyone.

During a bad time when I missed my partner I think of a poem “Pennies from Heaven”. I think of this poem when I find a penny. I think;

Today on the ground I found a penny,
but not just a penny.
This penny was from an Angle in Heaven.
When the Angle misses you and
he will just toss one down just to cheer you up.

Take a moment and smile and save the penny. You to will find that Richard will send you pennies. These pennies are from your special Angle in Heaven.

Richard may God be with you and all you love.

As I look at the faces of the men and women here, I see the faces of my co-workers. I can imagine each of them shooting the bull and swapping war stories at choir practice as the meat sizzles on the grill. I see them laughing, pranking and teasing their fellow agents, as we often do when we relieve stress. I wish that each of them were still here to share the good times.

And I feel compelled to look at each of the faces here and remember…to remember that each of them made the ultimate sacrifice in service to their country and we should NEVER forget them or their service.

Too often the sacrifices of those who serve our country are overlooked or casually dismissed by the very public they served so selflessly. But WE should never forget them…each and every one of them. May they each rest in peace eternally in God’s loving embrace.

Agent Goldstein, you left us too soon. May you watch over your precious grandaughter from heaven and be held close in the heart by all those who love you so dearly.

Rich, I had the honor of working with you, not just as a fellow agent, but also as a fellow K-9 handler. I still think of you everyday. I remember the many days that we had K-9 training together. I also remember how protective Carlo was of you, not to even allow a fellow agent get near you without him growling. We all miss you very much. You and your family are always in my prayers.

Rich-

A year ago the dreaded call came. It's always hard to lose an officer, and especially hard when it is someone you know. I watched them etch your name on the memorial the other day- never thought I would see someone I know personally on that wall. You will not be forgotten- and God Bless your family.

Rich

A year ago tomorrow, we were heading to DC to recognize the many LEOs that upstate NY we lost the year before. We were talking about your death and thinking of you and your family. It wasn't until we returned to Rochester that we learned that your family was from the Buffalo area. We will continue to be here for your family.

You and your surviving family, especially the new grandbaby that you haven't been here to hold and watch grow, are all in our thoughts and prayers today, the one year anniversary of your line of duty death. May God wrap his loving arms around your family and give them comfort on this very difficult day when they are no doubt missing you and reliving your tragic death over again. Rest in peace and thank you for your sacrifice.

Richard, I picked your name from too many memorial bracelets at the Police Unity Tour check-in to represent you pray for you and your family and ask that you watch over the Tour as we make our way from NJ to the memorial. There are several K9 officers in our Nor Cal group who will have you in their hearts. I can not see a world without dogs they add so much to our lives and for you to save yours says so much about you! Our prayers are also with your friends and family. I will try to meet them at your name to give them your bracelet. It is in Your Honor and Yor Spirit We Ride!

"The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

It's an amazing story that you saved your K-9 partner. It shows what he meant to you. You are a true hero. I hope Carlo is doing well. I know he will miss you. I'm sure I would have done the same for my partner Lex. You have to be a dog handler to know what it's like.
