Bruce started in law enforcement in Haverhill, NH, at about the same time I did. He was a pleasure to work with. He was outgoing and supportive, and always treated others courteously. We tested together in competition for the same job at one point, and his manner didn’t change one bit. He was a gentleman. Though we haven’t spoken in years, I remember him very fondly.
Gregory Floyd came to Bruce’s aid in the finest tradition of police service and the U. S. Marine Corps, shielding a fallen comrade with his own body and taking decisive action to stop the threat. Mr. Floyd, your actions were exemplary. I salute you.

I happened to receive an email notification as I signed up on this website after one of our local agencies lost one of our officers. I have been shocked at how many notifications I've received since. I take the time to read all of them and this one really caught my attention. There are not many things more horrifying than when an officer's life is taken by a suspect. There are no words for this heinous crime. How very brave and diligent the actions of the civilian who stopped to assist. My heart sincerely goes out to the family of Corporal Bruce McKay who was still so young, with so many years left to live. It is always the most difficult to understand when a life is lost so young. To the McKay family & friends and the Corporal's brothers and sisters in law enforcement, my thoughts and prayers are with all of you at this most difficult time.
