As we read about this event here in the west we prayed that people were going to be ok. I read now that you were on your way to make sure your city was warned and seek shelter. I believe what the Bible says: " There is no Greater love than to lay your life down for another. " You are a hero.. God Speed Brother.. Prayers go out to your family and dept.

Thank you for the uncommon valor you showed on May 8th. Not many people in this world could display such an unselfish act of courage given the opportunity to run the other way. I pray that God will bless your family with the peace and happiness that only he can provide after the loss of a man with such devotion.

Deputy dies after getting caught in tornado; family mourns his loss

STAFFORD COUNTY, Kansas, May 9, 2007 – On the dock in rural Kansas where the Buckman family has shared so many happy times, they are now united in grief.

Tim Buckman, a volunteer firefighter and deputy sheriff, was on the job Friday night, reporting tornadoes to the National Weather Services as the monster twister moved in.

"He was on the highway," Sally Buckman, Tim's wife, said. "He told my son, 'My phone is about to die. I don't think I'm going to get out of this one.'"

He was right. An hour outside Greensburg, Buckman was right in the path of the storm.

"I don't even remember who I received the call from," Sally said. "'Something happened.' They didn't have to say anymore from there."

Tim suffered brain injuries and was put on a respirator at the hospital, prompting daughter Kylee – always close to her dad – to do something remarkable.

With her family behind her, she brought a priest to her father's bedside and married her boyfriend three months head of schedule, so her dad, if only symbolically, could give her away.

Kylee's brother, Derick, was there.

"The father is supposed to give away the daughter, and know that he's not going to be there, it was very hard to grasp, it was a very touching moment," Derick said.

And it was a fleeting one. Hours after the wedding, Buckman was taken off life support. He died Tuesday.

"He saved everyone but himself," Sally said.

Leaving behind a family who learned service and sacrifice from their father.

To the family, friends, and co-workers of Ofc. Buckman,

As a police wife, I understand what it is like to have your loved one run out the door during a time when most people are told to seek shelter. While many people think that officers just catch criminals, we all know that they do so much more. There is no doubt that what he did helped save many others.

Remember that there are people from all over thinking of you and praying for your peace. We all feel the loss of a family member and want you to know that his work, dedication, and sacrifice will not soon be forgotten. May God bless you all.
