Reflections for Police Officer David Young

David Young will be missed by everyone that he came in contact with. He was a special person and I will miss him greatly. As a former employee of the Florence Police Department, I had the pleasure of working with David. He always had a smile on his face and was a very nice individual. He and I jokingly called each other "Yum Yum", a joke that we started sometime last, I'm sure he's laughing right now. We sometimes never know why people are placed in our lives, and I can say today that he was truly a blessing and inspiration in my life. I will never forget that smile. The last time that I'd spoken with him, was briefly before I resigned from FPD. I'd gotten him a Christmas present that I'd forgotten in my car. It was a Santa Claus Motorcycle Cop ornament, and the kick stand had broken off, due to my negligence. Anyway, he still receieved it with joy and thanked me even though the kick stand was broken. That was the kind of person he was, always grateful and appreciative. I feel honored to have worked with such a fine man of God. I pray that the family will heal during their time of bereavement, and I will be praying for them.

I PERSONALLY DID NOT KNOW OFFICER YOUNG BUT I HAVE HEARD ALOT ABOUT HIM AND I KNOW HE WAS A GOOD CHRISTIAN MAN. THE ONE THING I DO KNOW IS THAT GOD HAS A PERFECT TIME FOR EVERYTHING THAT HAPPENS AND EVEN THOUGH WE DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY THIS HAD TO HAPPEN NOW, GOD DOES AND HE WILL GIVE THIS FAMILY THE STRENGTH TO MAKE IT THROUGH AND THE PERFECT PEACE THAT ONLY GOD CAN GIVE. I KNOW THIS THROUGH PERSONAL EXPERIENCE. YOUR FAMILY WILL CONTINUE TO BE IN MY PRAYERS... GOD BLESS YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!

He had morals that exceeded most, a love for his profession and duty to serve, a love for his brothers and sisters in blue, a love for his family, and most importantly a love for Christ.

David was affectionately known as "Smiley" to most because of his infectious smile, inward and outward. This fine man always had a positive attitude and uplifted all who had contact with him. One time he told me that as he was issuing a lady a traffic ticket, his ink pen ran out of ink. She in turn gave him HER pen to write HER a ticket!!! THAT was the effect he had on people. He respected all individuals he came in contact with, professionally /personally, "good" guys/ "bad" guys. David almost always came in dispatch (smiling no doubt!), got a cup of coffee then refilled our cups (literally and figuratively).

I never heard a negative word from David's mouth. He loved God and cherished his wife and children which was reflected in his words and deeds.

David was a friend to all and loved dearly. He may be off duty with us (10-7), but he is now Eternally 10-31 (on duty) in Paradise.

May our prayers and thoughts uplift his wife and entire family to God to touch their hearts now and forever. Thanks be to God for blessing us with David on this Earth for 46 years.

"In valor there is hope."

Thank you, David, for your example. You will live in our hearts forevermore.

May God be with the family, fellow officers, and friends of Officer Young. I did not know Officer Young, but as I read his reflections, it brought tears to my eyes. The loss of a fellow officer in the line of duty is one of the hardest things I have ever had to go through, and their memory will always live on in your hearts. I could tell from what I read that this was a good officer, and friend to alot of people. My thoughts and prayers are with his family, LE family, and his friends. David, you have earned your wings, Rest in Peace with God, we know you are still walking the beat and watching over your fellow officers from Heaven.

My prayers are with Officer Young's family. I have never met them but my daughter Brittany is a student at UNA and Officer Young's daughter, Aimee quickly became one of Brittany's friends after she got to UNA. Brittany met Officer Young at Aimee's wedding and has told me what a wonderful person he was. We do not understand why he was taken from this world at such a young age but we do know that he is in heaven. I pray the Lord will help this sweet family through this very horrific time.

"My Brother"

Although I never met him, I knew him.
He was idealistic and believed he could make a difference.
He was immensely proud of the uniform and the badge and what they represent.
He felt privileged to be of service to his department, his community and to his country.

He was a cop.

Although I never met him, I knew him.
He was friendly, courteous, and polite, yet firm.
He laughed and joked, but was serious when necessary.
He was competent, trained, and professional.

He was a cop.

Although I never met him, I knew him.
He had a strong sense of right and wrong and became
frustrated when true justice became sidetracked.
He felt the sharp criticism that goes with the job, but he
never wavered.
He stood by and for his fellow officers.

He was a cop.

Although I never met him, I knew him.
He longed for his family during the long hours.
He worried about them during his shifts and the lonely
weekends, holidays and midnights when they were apart.
He felt guilty about the lost time, but knew his calling
and prayed they would understand.

He was a cop.

Although I never met him, I knew him.
He was a good son, a loving husband, and a devoted father.
He was dedicated to the profession and cared about the
people he served.
He wanted to do the best job that he could and strived to
be the best he could be.
He was a good citizen and a good neighbor.

He was a cop.

Yes, I did know him.
He was a cop, he was my Brother.

Rest easy Brother Young, we have the watch...

”I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me.”

You answered the call and made the ultimate sacrifice. Rest easy in God's kingdom and watch over us as we continue the battle here on earth!!!
