Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Police Officer Alan Christopher Silver

As I reflect on the wonderful person of Alan, he was the epitome of one who loved mankind and was willing to serve. As a student in my class, Alan always demonstrated respect and dignity at all times. I was always proud of Alan and his accomplishments. I am grateful that I had the opportunity to have known Alan. Even though he is absence, he answered the Supreme call of his Chief. My prayers and thoughts are with the family.

I had the pleasure of meeting Adam while assisting a client. He was one of the most sincere and sympathetic law enforcement officials I have ever met. He was extremely kind and helpful and graciously offered future assistance if needed. Although I met him only briefly, he left quite an impression on me and reaffirmed my faith in the compassion of our helping agencies in the area.

My prayers and thoughts are with your family. I had the opportunity to shake you son's hand at the Rocky Mount Police graduation and to hear his speech. My "gut" reaction was that he was committed to the cause of serving and protecting humanity. May solace embrace your family during this difficult time on life's journey.

Cop on the Take

First he takes the oath.

Now look at all he takes.

He takes it in stride when people call him pig.

He takes time to stop and talk to children.

He takes your verbal abuse while giving you a ticket you really deserved.

He takes on creeps you would be afraid to even look at.

He takes time away from his family to keep you safe.

He takes your injured child to the hospital.

He takes the graveyard shift without complaint because it's his turn.

He takes his life into his hands daily.

He takes you home when your car breaks down.

He takes time to explain why both your headlights have to work.

He takes the job no one else wants--telling you a loved one has died.

He takes criminals to jail.

He takes in sights that would make you cry.

Sometimes he cries too, but he takes it anyway because someone has to.

If he is lucky, he takes retirement.

He takes memories to bed each night that you couldn't bear for even one day.

Sometimes, he takes a bullet.

And yes, occasionally he may take a free cup of coffee.

Then one day he pays for all he has taken, and God takes him.

Please remember that the "He" in all this represents all police officers, both men and women who have served and are serving our cities and their citizens we have all sworn to protect.

Blessed are the peace keepers!

To the family, friends, and officers that knew Officer Silver, my thoughts and prayers are with you as you face the trying times ahead of you. Please know your not alone.

Here I am, lost in the light of the moon that comes through my window
Bathed in blue, the walls of my memory divide the thorns from the roses
It's you and the roses

Touch me and I will follow in your afterglow
Heal me from all this sorrow
As I let you go I will find my way when I see your eyes
Now I'm living in your afterglow

Here I am, lost in the ashes of time, but who wants tomorrow?
In between the longing to hold you again
I'm caught in your shadow, I'm losing control
My mind drifts away, we only have today

Touch me and I will follow in your afterglow
Heal me from all this sorrow
As I let you go I will find my way
I will sacrifice 'til the blinding day when I see your eyes
Now I'm living in your afterglow

When the veils are gone as I let you go, as I let you go

Touch me and I will follow in your afterglow
Heal me from all this sorrow
As I let you go I will find my way, I will sacrifice
Now I'm living in your afterglow

Bathed in blue, the walls of my memory divide the thorns from the roses
It's you who is closest

My heart goes out to the family in their time of mourning. I know that his family is very strong in the Lord, but as it is difficult for me to know that he is no longer with us I can not even begin to imagine what the family must be going through. He was a great son, brother, and uncle, as well as a mentor to his peers and a living example of what a young christian man should be. He was only given to us for a season and I am thankful for the opportunity I had to be blessed with his presence.

Alan, My Friend. From the day I met you, you were a TRUE GENTLEMAN. When I took your photo for your cards, I thought what a “handsome & polite young man and how proud if I had a son that he would have been like you. I got to know you well since you spent approximately three months on the third floor working before starting the Academy. Anytime I had work that I needed help with you did it with a smile. From day one you were a SHINING example of what our Four Core Values stand for: Integrity, Professionalism, Respect, & Fairness.

To your Parents & other Friends I say, I am a better person for knowing your son. You did a great job raising him. He was always a gentleman around me and I never heard him say a bad word about anyone. I know he loved you all very much. I will miss him greatly.

Silver who would have ever known that those early morning runs with you and the 10th Academy would have ever led to me making a comment here about your character? I observed you on several occasions making decisions that would reflect our core values: Professionalism, Integrity, Respect and Fairness. You led by example and we were blessed to have you in our department. To the Silver family our thoughts and prayers are with you all. RIP Brother...we will take it from here!

Alan, you were the best example of humanity that we all strive to be. We, in blue, know that you will be with each and every one of us as we continue the legacy that you strived for. It is with deep sadness that you were taken from us so soon but the time you were here will never be forgotten. It is a comfort to know that you are in a place to watch over all of your brothers and sisters in blue and the families that you took an oath to protect. My prayers go out to your family and friends, may they find comfort in knowing that your spirit will be with us as we continue to serve. God Bless.
