Reflections for Police Officer Alan Christopher Silver

Officer Silver,

The prayers of all eastern NC law enforcement are with your family and your co-workers. I have talked to a couple of people that knew you and they had nothing but kind words to speak. We'll take the watch from here.

"Blessed are the peacemakers for they shall be called the sons of God." Matt 5:9

To the Family of Officer Silver. May you find comfort in the Word of God. Know that the Bible tells us that Being absent from the body means being present with the Lord. Know that God is able to give you strength during your hour of bereavement. The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life. Earth has no sorrow that heavan can not heal. Look to the hills, which cometh your help, for all of your help comes from the Lord. Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. Officer Silver rest in peace and know that your true tour of duty has just begun with the Lord. Gone but never forgotten.......Love....

To family,friends,co-workers, and others....

"And we know that God causes ALL things to work together for good to those who love God." We are all deeply hurt from this tragedy, but we must remember that God controls all things. There is nothing that happens that he doesn't already know about. There is a reason for everything and sometimes we can't and will never understand why tragic things happen in our lives. Never question God. Where He closes a door He always opens another one. He will never put anymore on us than we can handle. I almost lost my son a little over 3 years ago, he was 7 then. I can still today remember the pain, unknown, hurt, anger, disbelief, and confusion of why God had allowed this to happen to my baby. I just remember praying that night on the way to the hospital for God to forgive me for my lack of faith and to please give me grace to get through this, no matter what the outcome was going to be. I was at peace with myself and I just had this feeling that things would be fine. God was merciful. After months of recovery, my son was just fine. There have been so many great things that have come out of this tragedy. I realize that sometimes it takes a tragedy whether ending our way or not to make us realize just how short life can be and how quickly things can happen. The bigger question of all is..."Are we ready to meet out Maker?" From what I have heard, Officer Silver was ready and that is all that truly matters. His spirit went to be with the Lord the moment he passed. There is such heartache for all of us that miss him and want him here on earth with us, but we need to remember that he is in a much greater place. Our lives on this earth are so... short compared to how long we will spend in eternity. WE will all appreciate his hard-work, contribution, and for the walk he took every time he slipped on his uniform, but he is finally at rest. No more pain and suffering, he has gained a new, perfect body and is at home now. Hopefully, you will all see him again someday when it is your roll-call. Until then just know that he loved you all and would not won't you to be sad for him, but to rejoice with his HOME-going.

God's blessings Alan, Linda, Reggie and Family! What a wonderful young man! We are so fortunate to have known him - a true sweetheart. We can do nothing but be here for you whether in Rocky Mount or in Eatonton. Always know that our hearts and our prayers are with you. We have nothing but good memories of Alan - this is so often not true at times like these. He was always pleasant, caring, respectful, and so loving toward you, his parents, and his brother. Remember Job - the Lord will restore us if we only have faith and believe.

My Brother’s Keeper (c)
By: Reginald A. Silver (Alan’s Brother)
May 4, 2007

Early morning just before the moon could set
And the sun could shine bright
He’d rush into my room and shake me
“Get up Man! You’re burning daylight”

I’d rise from my sleep to see the sparkle in his eye
The press of his uniform, the gleam of his badge, the shine of his shoe
Still hear his voice whisper whenever I have a choice to make
“Well, Whatcha gon’ do?”

He always had this sense of duty
This sense of service, the desire to protect
Always the first on the scene and the last man out
Always with Integrity, Professionalism, Fairness, and Respect

More than the badge he wore
He was a man of God, anointed and appointed to touch so many in so little time
My brother is a hero; heroes live forever; fearless
Never afraid to walk that thin blue line

Work hard, but love even harder
That was the creed he lived his life by; that was his inner drive
Never faltering, never wavering; firm but fair
To just live life was not enough, he knew what it was like to truly be alive

Son, brother, uncle, special friend
Many things to many people, but most of all God’s own
Where do the fleeting moments go?
Where has the time gone?

As for me, I am my brother’s keeper
Keeper of all his gifts and his spirit sustains me
I am my brother’s keeper
The custodian of his character, his integrity

I am my brother’s keeper
For all the times we stood shoulder to shoulder against the world; triumphantly
I am my brother’s keeper
For all the times he was that hand reaching back for me

I am my brother’s keeper
And he keeps me
Standing watch at the gate
Smiling, because he’s seen what the end will be

Patrolling the Streets of Gold

When I passed from this life into the next
I was carried through the gates by the Son of Man.
As I looked at him he wiped away my tears
It was then that I noticed my wounds were healed.

As my eyes turned forward I saw the streets of gold.
He gently placed my feet upon the street.
As I looked down I noticed my shoes were gone;
I stood with bear feet on Heaven's road.

I also noticed that my weapon was now gone;
My bullet proof vest as well as my cuffs are missing.
My badge was replaced by one of Solid Gold.
At first I looked at him in puzzlement.....
Then I knew that I will never have the need
To use the tools of my trade that
I had carried for many years.....
For now I Patrol The Streets Of Gold.

I feel the sorrow and the pain that the family and the co-workers are going through I, myself as a 911-Dispatcher in North Carolina and now the Widow of A Deputy Sheriff. Keep your family close and please reach for help if you need it you will go through many things in the coming months but you do not have to do it alone. Concerns Of Police Survivors (COPS) Organization will be a great source of strength and support for the entire family. My Husband Started In Law Enforcement in NC in Morehead City, NC and we had only been in TN aprox. 15 months at the time of his death. So even though I didn’t know Officer Silver personally I feel as if he is part of my extended family. May god be with you through this most difficult time.
