Reflections for Police Officer III Luke Timothy Hoffman

I only knew Luke for a brief period of time, not enough time really. I see the pain on so many people's faces even after four months. You touched so many people it amazes me. I can only hope to be able to touch half as many. Your memory will never wane from those around the firehouse as I'm sure at the police station. You obviously are the definition of friend and brother.

I work with 6D MCPD and, to this day, see the pain of lossing you in their eyes. I know they miss you and I hope you know you will never be forgotten. My hope is that you know how many people's lives you touched while you were here on earth. We will continue to carry the blue torch in your name.

For all I know Luke you were hanging out at the West Friendship Volunteer Fire Department as a teen the night of June 28, 1997. As I prepare for National Police week May of 2008 - you will be remembered as a Nation watches and listens to your name being called and flowers being placed. You young bucks stick together up there, we need lots of angels watching over us. I will etch your name as I do my husband Marks' every time I visit the NLEOM.
You are missed.....Jenn, Surviving Wife of MCPD, Maryland

Your Heart and Soul molded you into an exceptional police officer and Fireman.
I will never forget your first day on the midnight shift in Wheaton. You pulled up behind me on a traffic stop, walked up to the car, and introduced yourself with a handshake.
You always talked me into writing a ticket, when I only wanted to issue a warning.
You never took "NO" for an answer.
Which is why you are the very best!!!!!!
Your laughter, jokes, smiles, positive feelings, and love for the job will live on...
Your hunger to learn and aspirations are awesome.
No, You are the Man....

You were a good friend in the academy. I was devastated to hear of your death. You were the one person I could count on to laugh off the days stress at the academy. I wish I would have had the chance to work with you on the street. Your quiet confidence, friendship and leadership will long outlive session 48.

I only learned of this site, through the recent death of our officer, Cpl. Scott Allen Wheeler.I did not know you, but knew of your sister, who was on another squad working in our center. My heart goes out to all your family and friends, as I pray for all of them to be comforted by Gods loving grace. You gave the ultimate sacrifice trying to protect the citizens of this state. This is a loss without end. There are no words that can express, other then ones I heard once, " A Hero does not become a Hero by their death, but by how they lived their life". Rest easy and peacefully in the Heavens above! God Bless Always!

You are in my thoughts as Howard County has lost yet another hero. As I pass your house everyday on the way home I whisper up a little "How ya doin?". You are missed.

Luke,

I am sitting here praying for Officer Scott Wheeler who was seriously injured after being struck by a vehicle while working a radar detail. I am having a hard time understanding how these horrible things are happening to people I care about. As Scott lays in Shock Trauma, I continue to pray for him as I did for you. I think about you every day. You are like a brother to our family. You are awesome! My heart is still very heavy and you are in my thoughts every day. I pray that you are at peace.

Until we meet again my dear friend

To the family and friends of Officer Luke T. Hoffman and his fellow officers with the Montgomery County Police Department:

On behalf of our family, we wish to extend our deepest condolences on the grievous loss you have suffered because of this tragic line of duty death.

I pray that his loved ones will be comforted by the support of your faith and your law enforcement family. There are many other survivors of law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty who share this difficult journey with you, and they too can be a source of great comfort. How very sad that he tragically lost his life at such a young age. He will never be forgotten and his honor will always be revered.

Heaven has another hero today, but how I wish it were not your beloved.

My son was fatally shot and died exactly two years and one day before Luke during a foot pursuit of two robbery suspects. Forgive me for not writing sooner, but this time of year is especially hard and especially now since we are starting trial this month.

I share his mother's anquish in losing a cherished child.

My thoughts are also with the other officer and I pray for his emotional and physical healing as well.

This refection is sent with the utmost respect for the distinquished and dedicated service Luke gave to the citizens of Maryland, and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on April 25, 2007.

Well Luke, a lot of people have asked that you look after all of us. I just want to thank you for doing that last Friday. I stayed late to help out your shift and gave them another scare. I got t-boned on the passenger side at about 35-40 MPH. Not a pleasant experience at all. Your shift was great to me. I just wanted to thank you for having an extra set of eyes watching out for all of us. I hope that you and Mike Nickerson can continue to watch out for all of us. Continue to rest easy!!
