Miss you dad!

Hey Corey,
Well, I've been to see you at your resting place twice since April and still can't believe that you're gone. Since we no longer live in Gainesville it sometimes feels like it never happened and we just haven't seen you in a while and you'll be there when we come to visit. We wish. Ted and I went to see Sally on our visit in April and make sure she was doing ok. Katie was there and they seem to be holding up alright and it was wonderful to see them. It was so sad to not see you and to find out Renegade left this earth shortly after you did. We hope you're both having fun playing catch and having a grand time in heaven. We miss you so much here on earth.

Spoon,

I miss your friendship so much. When we started this job together all of those years ago, I never thought that anything like this would ever happen. I am proud of you and all that you accomplished in your career. But I am even more proud of all of the things that you did outside of work. You were always the consumate family man, loving husband and great father.

I know that I am not the only one that misses you.

Rest in peace, my brother.

LT I was one of three members of my department's honor guard that attended your funeral. The turn out that day showed all that did not know you that you were not only a fine officer but an even better man. May you walk your beat on heaven's streets in peace sir.

Well LT, several 100 of your brothers and sisters gathered yesterday to honor you and the other 16 who paid the ultimate sacrifice. This past year had been the most this state had seen in police officer deaths in over 20 years. An increase of 56% and 2nd in the US. Everyone wonders what has happened why the increase! That is one question left open in hopes that if there is no answer then hopefully it will be a better year. Still many families as yours will be left with the emptiness this year as we did last year, God Bless all of You! I saw Sally, Katie and Brandon laughing at times which was such relief to see. Sally though, she is tough LT. I admire Sally so much, she has been so strong through this and still a year later so strong! Sometimes in my weakness I look to Sally for some strength, which is somehow backwards. It should be me that is strong for her and the kids. I know to this day I can only remember why you not me. I still turn to the Lord and ask why!Maybe it is not for me to understand! I do know I miss you and think of you daily. I know where you are and what you are doing. At least I can think upon a star and know you are one of the many patroling the streets of heaven and I know you are protecting us here. Just know that has time passes we don't ever forget, but rather we remember and celeberate your life when you were here. It never gets easy we just learn to live with it and make it through as best as we know how. I know from now until the end of my time that you will have thousands of fellow brothers and sisters, a family and friends remembering you and making sure you are remembered! As they say, "Well done,my good and faithful servant, well done." Love ya LT!

Well Spooner,

As you know, they promoted Matt Nechodom and he is assigned to Midnight Shift. I was running on the treadmill this morning and he came in wondering who was running on the treadmill. I had to smile because I know how much you kidded around with me about not being able to get any work done while I was on the treadmill. You are still making me smile.

We haven't forgotten! Your family is still part of our family. I know a year is coming up and we still miss you more than ever!

Keep watching over everyone.

My Department held a DWI detail a few nights ago in memory of Lt Dahlem. After reading his memorial, it inspired me to take a more aggressive approach on combatting drunk drivers. I caught two that night (one was a 2d offense). The department netted about a dozen for the night, over a ten hour period. The Gainesville PD lost a great man on April 3, 2007. The Alexandria Police Department, Alexandria, VA and I mourn your loss.

My deepest sympathies go out to the family

The offender, with a BAC over .20, was just sentenced to 10 years in prison! I'm sorry Lieutenant Dahlem, the system let you down! It's an absolute disgrace of justice and I am ashamed!

LT-
Sorry I missed your street dedication, but I'm honestly overwhelmed. It's starting to all sink in now. The realization of your passing turns me into an emotional mess. I feel selfish and guilty for feeling this way as I was only in your life for a short while compared others. I miss you very much and I'm sorry for not being stronger.

Happy Holidays, LT.

(PS- i only hope you missed the FSU v. UF game. I worked, but i happily displayed my FSU hat in my cruiser. GO NOLES!)
