God bless my family when I am away,
Leave the lights on I'll return from harms way,

Grant me courage and strength to protect others each day,
So they live in peace without worry, fear or dismay,

Bless those who have fallen given their life for another
May their spirit live on from then and forever,

Return me home to my family at the end of each night,
May I pass through the door before the morning's first light,

Shall I give my life for another before the dawn breaks today,
God bless my family when I am away.

We are a family and will always be one. Never forget the uniform binds us all as one family under God's watchful eyes.

This message is from Matt Beiser and Lori Beiser (former GPD #489 & #490).

Corey worked as a sergeant in GPD personnel when we were hired in 2000. Although our time at GPD was short, we remember Corey as a strong leader and a genuine, friendly person. Our hearts go out to the Dahlem family, as well to his GPD family.

God Bless all of you,

Sergeant Matt Beiser

To the family of Lt. Dahlem, I can only offer you my prayers and compassion. I wish that I could offer more, like an explanation that would make sense of this, but I cannot. Your loved one sacrificed his life, and I'm sure he (like every other LEO) knew that this was part of the bargain, but it's a hard bargain to lose. Please know that he's still with you, and will always be with you. He died doing not only what he loved, but also doing what he was damn good at, and that's an honor that cannot be said of many people.

Lt. Dahlem - I never knew you, but I know so many who will look up to you as an example of what the risks are. Rest easy in heaven, and never give up the fight. It is an oldie, but a goodie: It is not how he died that makes him a hero; it is how he lived.

To the family and friends of Corey Dahlem, I do not normally write anything like this. But, this touched me so very much. It is hard for me to imagine how officers go out each day to do what many of us would never want to do. Corey and all ivolved in law enforcement will always be in my heart. My most felt condolences go out to Corey's family and friends. Autie

Lt,

Your death leaves many in sorrow. Though never having the chance to meet you, your impact has been felt through the sentiments, praise, and grief expressed by one of our Academy classmates, an analyst with GPD whom you hired. Rest in peace and pride knowing you made a difference, not just to the citizens of Gainesville that you served, but to your co-workers, both sworn and non-sworn.

Happy Birthday Corey! This morning is April 5th and my calendar popped up yesterday reminding me to make you a Pineapple Delight for dessert! You're not missing anything though, because the fruit in heaven is so much sweeter. God needed to bring one of his best soldiers home to help combat some of the crap that he deals with every day. And while we'll miss you - we know you are the perfect person for the job. To Sally and family - hold dear to the wonderful legacy that Corey has left for you. He made the ultimate sacrifice, but know that he will NEVER be forgotten by his extended family here at GPD.
