Officer Byrne - Thanks for your service to our nation, and to the people of Aurora, Glendale, and the State of Colorado. I stood in the State Assembly chambers, last Friday, when your name was read off during a resolution regarding the upcoming Peace Officer's memorial week. You, and the almost 250 others, are not forgotten.

May God grant you eternal rest and may His perpetual light shine upon you.

Rest well, Marine, we have the watch for now.

Well DOUG, it been three years to the minute, Unbelievable.
I saw your Mom and Dad today. They enjoyed the day with GARY. There is no doubt that they miss you, however, it is very obvious of how proud of you they are. Your mom’s Eyes lit up as she briefly spoke to me about you. You definitely came from great stock.

We miss you man…

I miss you,Jeff Sanders and I playing basket ball in your drive way and your mother would come outside and let us know she didnt appreciate us crushing her flower bed when we missed a shot with the basketball. The three of us have been brothers since 1979 and we will remain brothers for an eternity. God bless you and your family Doug. What can I say...How could I have fallen so far that I just now found out...I have been so hopeful to get back in touch with my "good" old friends to relive some good times and hit some golf balls...You are missed, my friend, but not forgotten...

To Officer Doug Byren and his loved ones:

On this the second anniversary of your tragic death, please know that your memory is honored and revered today.

My heart goes out to your family. You’re in our thoughts and our prayers.

Doug, you rescued us, saved our possessions, our lives and our families. You are one of the rare heroes among us. You were always there for us in the most traumatic moments of our lives. No matter when we called, we just expected that you would come and do whatever it took to help us, and you always met our expectations. Your selflessness and dedication are awe-inspiring.

This world, this country, your community truly are better places because of you. To have lost you is a great tragedy, an irreplaceable, immeasurable loss for society. We are grateful for and to you, and honor you for all you did for us day in and day out whether you received a word of thanks or praise.

Rest in Peace, Doug. I am humbled by your valor, courage, and dedication.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the distinquished service Doug gave to his community and the citizens of Colorado, and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on March 26, 2007.

My mother, an Aurora Police Officer, had the honor of serving with you and spoke fondly of you. She always said you were a great officer and that she misses you. I was at your funeral and cried. It is a terrible thing that you were taken from the boys in blue. We will miss you.

Douglas, one year has passed. I couldn't believe the crowd. So many people came out to memorialize and remember you. You are forever loved and missed, and far from forgotten. Thanks for the sunshine. It helped warm our hearts, and dried some of those tears.

Love you.
Save me a seat.

Doug,
I am thinking of you today. I am thinking of how much the life of a hero matters and how sad it is to think of the caliber of those that have died in the line of duty. Almost a year now since we lost you. In District 3, your picture is just outside of briefing and every day I saw it and it gave me a strange sort of peace and I took a moment to think of you. I didn't have the honor of knowing you well, but when I was thinking today about those who gave all, I thought of you. I wish you were still with us. I believe you are safe in the hand of God. May peace be with your family as this anniversary reminds us that we will not meet with you again in this place.
