Doug,

For 27 years you've been my best friend. I still remember the day we met in 4th grade.

Since that day, I've never had a friend with such an influence in my life. You were right there, always, though everything. I've always been in awe of your courage, dedication and never-ending optimism. You always could make me laugh under any circumstances.

I want to thank you for showing me what being a true friend and brother means. You've made me a better person for knowing you and God could have given me no better gift than having you in my life.

I'll never ever forget you, not until the moment I leave this earth. I'll see you sometimes in my dreams, I'm sure of it. Until then or they very end......

I love you, my friend, my brother

Doug was my FTO for one day when my other FTO was out, he was very professional and I felt very relaxed with him. In that very short time I learned how he treated people and tried to emulate him when I contact any member of the public.

A wise man once said that a man should be judged by the content of his character. Doug has set the bar high for the rest of us. Indeed he was a man of character.

Doug and I were probably serving in Operation Desert Storm during the same time, but never met until I joined the Aurora Police Department.

Doug, I will always remember you and your kind words. You will be missed by all your brothers and sisters here at APD. "Semper Fi', and may the Lord watch over you until you return to live with Him again.

In the words of one of my favorite hymns ...'Till we meet again, God be with you 'till we meet again.

I first knew Doug in 1998, when we both worked for the Glendale (Colo.) Police Department. Doug and I worked the late shift together and became good friends. Doug was always the one to volunteer his time to help his friends and family.

Not only was Doug a great friend, but he was a great cop and an even better American. His service to his Corps, country and fellow citizens are the hallmark of a life cut short by fate. He died doing what he always did, helping others.

I mourn the loss of Doug alongside his family, friends and co-workers at the Glendale and Aurora Police Departments. His friendship and sense of humor will always be with me.

Rest In Peace Doug, your watch is over.

I worked with Officer Doug Byrne. He was an outstanding, well respected police officer and friend. I will never forget the time when I came to Aurora for my first time and rode with the Aurora Police Department to see whether or not I wanted lateral from the Miami Dade Police Department and I met you Doug. You were one of the first police officers that I met here. You always told me "Come to Aurora. It's a good police department with great people. It's fun." I'll never forget you! I will remember the fun times we have shared here in Aurora. Thank you for all our hard work and service. You are my brother Doug and I love you just like one. God Bless you brother and I'll see you again someday! Take Care...
