I had the honor of working with Doug when he was at the Glendale Police Department. He had a great sense of humor and loved a practical joke. When he was a Detective, I remember him going to the Goodwill store and buying the tackiest 1970’s era sports coat. He then walked by the command staff wearing it while they were in a meeting just to get a reaction from them. I will never forget how their jaws dropped.

Doug was also one of the kindest people I have met. He helped me through some personal issues and even volunteered to help me move furniture to a third-story apartment. His accident happened days before I was to move to Texas. I am so grateful that I was able to attend his service and pay honor to his sacrifice.

Now in 2021, I still think of him and pray for his family. Rest in Peace Doug.

It has been almost ten years since you left this earthly existence. I was working intake at the jail when I remember you clearing and leaving in a hurry to answer that call to the basketball park on East 6TH Avenue. I didn't know you well, but what I knew told me you were a solid officer and a good guy. R.I.P. Doug and watch out for the guys coming after you.

Officer Byrne,

I recall having seen you at a restaurant one evening, as I was assisting with the Adams & Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office's, and Aurora PD K-9 teams, a few years prior to your passing. May your soul rest peacefully.

Doug,

It's been a little more than six years since you left us. We all miss you and remember your service to your country, Corps and fellow police officers.

Your picture hangs in a place of honor in my office. I often think of the jokes we used to play on Dean Fountain and your Bill Angermann impressions.

Rest in Peace Brother! You are always in our hearts and thoughts...

Romans 13:4 For he his the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, an avenger for wrath to him that doeth evil. This is a favorite bible verse of mine that has been used in churches to describe how important a soldier/police officer is to our holy Father. Doug was a marine and a police officer but more importantly Doug was my best friend. I pray for all men and women who serve this wonderful country of ours. My heart goes out to the families of the fallen. If you are a police officer or military and you are reading this I just want to say Thank you. May the fallen never be forgotten, and the families who are left behind may God comfort your grieving heart. Until we meet again Doug. Your friend, Jerry Whitehead

I wish heaven had a phone so I could hear your voice again.
It's been almost 4 years, since I lost my closest friend.
I thought of you today, but that is nothing new.
I thought about you yesterday, and days before that too.
I think of you in silence, I often speak your name.
All I have are memories now and a picture in a frame.
Your memory is a keepsake, from which I'll never part.
God has you in his arms...I have you in my heart
