Reflections for Police Officer Lonnie Wells

It's been almost 10 years since this tragic event happen. In those ten years, I have continue to hold you near, and dear to my heart. You were not only a brother in arms, but, you were, and will forever be my true brother. I don't know if life will ever bring someone else in my life to replace the laughter, joy, and love you always displayed on a daily bases, but I do know that what you brought to the table will always have a very special place in my heart. The time spent together with you and your family, I will cherish for life. God gave me a true friend for life in you, and a brother who I will never forget. Hand in Hand, true blue forever. Former Moncks Corner Police Corporal.

Lonnie, this is the first time I visited this page. I can't express what you meant to all of us, especially my son. I remember the day it happened, I told my son that two officers had been shot in town, his first words in reply were, "Oh God, I hope it wasn't Lonnie." I will never forget the look on his face when I had to tell him. He had just lost his mother 3 months before.

He still remembers (and talks about) the time you shared with him while we were working the roads. I don't believe he will ever forget you, as I am sure I will not.

Rest in God's arms Brother,

I remember many things about you like the valentines day dance and all the other dances you threw for us, I remember how you took some of us to mcdonalds just to get a cheesebugar for lunch, and how you would sing rap music and play it for us in your potrol car in the afternoons while we were waiting for our buses, and how on the hot days you sold us sodas because you cared so much..

I remember you as an officer at Cottageville SC. So ironic that you found your fellow C'ville officer shot to death, only to have this terrible thing happen to you.

I loved the time I spent in MC as an officer. My time as an officer helps me today as an attorney.
You worked for a good department, and I am so sorry you died in the line.

If I knew it would be the last time, that I'd see you fall asleep. I would tuck you in more tightly, and pray the Lord your soul to keep,
If I knew it would be the last time, that I see you walk out the door. I would give you a hug and kiss, and call you back for one more.

If I knew it would be the last time, I'd hear your voice lifted up in praise. I would video tape each action and word, so I could play them back day after day.

If I knew it would be the last time, I could spare an extra minute or two to stop and say.. "I love you," instead of assuming, you would KNOW I do.

If I knew it would be the last time, I would be there to share your day. Well I'm sure you'll have so many more, so I can let just this one slip away.

For surely there's always tomorrow, to make up for an oversight. We always get a second chance, to make everything right.

There will always be another day, to say our "I love yous," And certainly there's another chance to say our "Anything I can do's?"

But just in case I might be wrong, and today is all I get. I'd like to say how much I love you, and I hope we never forget.

Tomorrow is not promised to anyone, young or old alike. Today may be the last chance you get, to hold your loved one tight.

So if you're waiting for tomorrow, why not do it today. For if tomorrow never comes, you'll surely regret the day.

That you didn't take that extra time, for a smile, a hug, or a kiss. You were too busy to grant someone, what turned out to be their one last wish.

So hold your loved ones close today, whisper in their ear, Tell them how much you love them, and that you'll always hold them dear,

Take time to say "I'm sorry," "please forgive me," "thank you" or "it's okay." And if tomorrow never comes, you'll have no regrets about today.
