Mark,

It seemed so silly at the time, but Elizabeth and I now know, because of you, that raccoons do not possess the necessary body temperature to become rabid; or was it a possum?

Thank you for standing on the line and making the ultimate sacrifice, so that others may live free. It truly is the way that you lived that makes you a hero. And thank you for all the times that you backed up Elizabeth and her partner at SW so that they were safe.

You are gone, Mark---but you will live in the hearts of many. You will not be forgotten

Cpl. Mark Nix, I have never met you but with all the publicity of your untimely death I feel that I have known you for some time. I wanted to reflect to your loved ones the dedication you have in your career not only as a Dallas Police Officer but as a dedicated USN Officer. Thank you for your love of country and your faithful service. Thank you for you love of your department that you displayed each day you devoted to the job of protecting the citizens of Dallas and the job you did for them. You will leave a void in the lives of many and all of those you touched through your DPD service. May God Bless each of those you have touched the last seven years and those left behind. May God help them to understand and give them the peace they need to get through this trying time of loss. Gone but never forgotten!

Another name carved in stone. Yours will be added among all the brave and awe inspiring heroes that have gone before you. May we never take for granted the ultimate sacrifice that our brothers and sisters in blue have made by standing in the gap for us. I pray for the Lord to bring peace to your family's hearts and to comfort them.
I thank you and greatly appreciate you for your dedication to service and for reminding all of us what it really means to back your brother no matter what the cost. We will certainly miss you, Brother In Blue.

I didn't know Mark personally - he was just a boy when I last saw him. But I knew his father and his grandfather and was told that he was much like his grandfather. If so, Mark was a strong and humble man for his grandfather (my uncle) was one of the most wonderful men I have ever known. David, my heart is with you during this time of grief for your son.

I attended Senior Corporal Mark Nix's funeral today. It was so obvious how much this young man was loved and admired. It was said over and over that Mark was a warrior who also had a tender side. I felt it important to bring my children to the funeral to show them what a true HERO is. In this world that we live in today, there are so few role models to look up to. Mark is truly a HERO and I wanted my children to know about him.

Thank you not only for your service to your country but also the streets of Dallas. You will not be forgotten!

Cpl. Nix
Thank you for your service not only for the city of Dallas, but the entire state of Texas. Yet another senseless murder to a brother of mine. Your family I hope is proud of you and the DPD. You apprehended a murder suspect and now the victims family can rest in peace. It takes a special person to put that badge on on a daily basis and I thank you for walking the thin blue line. From all of the New Braunfels PD, we wish your family and DPD the best through this time of greif.
