Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Game Warden Justin Phillip Hurst

My deepest sympathy to the family of this hero. My heart breaks to think of another baby growing up without his father. Your family is in my prayers. May God give you the strength to carry on everyday. I take comfort in the following verse from Psalm.

Psalm 68:5 A Father to the Fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in his holy dwelling.

Wife of Oklahoma City Police Officer

Sometimes you get the bad guy and sometimes he
gets you.
The shot that killed you also killed a part of us.
It killed a part of your family, both at work and at home.
It killed your dreams, your hopes, your future.
But it must not kill our determination to make this
world a better place or our will to make a difference.
America's streets must be running red with blood with
all the deaths of leos. Every time I come here to leave
a reflection, I feel like my words get emptier and emptier. I am truly
sorry for your loss...a loss too great
for words.

Please accept our heartfelt sympathies for your loss. This is a horrible tragedy that should never have happened. On his birthday.... having a wife, and a young child.... all of it. We are so sorry for your loss. You will be in our prayers and thoughts. May Justin rest in heavenly peace. He will be watching over you always, from above. God bless you all.

March 17, 2007

To Mrs. Hurst, her infant son, and Game Warden Justin Hurst's parents, I offer my most sincere condolences.

It is always difficult to cope with the loss of a loved one; but it is all the more heartbreaking when a young person with a young family, who needs and depends on him as a husband and father, is called back home much too soon. I am sorry that you have to suffer such a tragedy.

To the parents...I know your grief...we should not have to face the loss of a young adult son in our lifetime. There are no words for that pain...just the knowledge that one day we will all be reunited again.

My prayer is that God will give all of you the graces you will need to sustain you as you face this very sad and difficult time in your lives.

Happy Birthday Warden Hurst, as you were born again, once to loving parents, and now, on that same date to eternal life. God Bless you.

May God's perpetual light shine upon the soul of Game Warden Justin Hurst and may he rest in His eternal peace for having made the ultimate sacrifice in protecting and serving his community.

With my deepest sympathy.

"A Part Of America Died,"
Somebody killed a policeman today,
And part of America died.
A piece of our country he swore to protect,
Will be buried with him at his side.
The suspect that shot him will stand up in court,
With counsel demanding his rights.
While a young widowed mother must work for her kids,
And spend many long lonely nights.
The beat he walked was a battle field too
just as if he had gone off to war.
Though the flag of our nation won't fly at half mast,
To his name they will add a gold star.
Yes, somebody killed a policeman today,
In your town or mine,
While we slept in comfort behind locked doors,
A cop put his life on the line.
Now his ghost walks a beat on a dark city street,
And stands at each new rookies' side.
He answered the call,of himself and gave his all,
And a part of America died.

Here we are again leaving thoughts and prayers to another officer who lost his life in a job that he enjoyed doing and gave his all.
Is the people in America going crazy????????? Every day I come to this memorial in hopes I will not see another officer down. It seems that people don't have any values to human life? I don't understand!!!!!!! We do hope that the words that everyone leaves here will be comforting to the family, loved ones and all who knew Warden Hurst. We will always remember his heroism.
GOD BLESS YOU ALL

“REMEMBER ME”
Law enforcement officers are, indeed, a special breed of people. Ask anyone on the street and they will tell you that they would not have our jobs for anything in the world. It takes something special to do what we do and at the same time be able to even contemplate retirement. We try to be optimists. Unfortunately, there are a few of us who will never make that date with retirement. By the very nature of our job, we are at risk everyday of losing our lives, either at the hand of some deranged individual or in some other situation that we, by virtue of our occupation, may be unable to avoid. Some people have recognized the hazardous duties we involve ourselves in, the risks we take, and the pride we take in accomplishing that job. There is National Law Enforcement Week, dedicated to us who gladly accept the responsibility of protecting the citizens in our respective jurisdictions. National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Day is dedicated to those who gave their lives in the line of duty. These are but two examples of remembrances specifically for law enforcement personnel. Remembrances that come but once a year. We should remind fellow officers of another type of remembrance, one that will last a lifetime. Sooner or later, a doctor will pronounce us dead. It is inevitable. Regardless of whatever happens, death is the end we will all have to face.

"My Brother"

Although I never met him, I knew him.
He was idealistic and believed he could make a difference.
He was immensely proud of the uniform and the badge and what they represent.
He felt privileged to be of service to his department, his community and to his country.

He was a cop.

Although I never met him, I knew him.
He was friendly, courteous, and polite, yet firm.
He laughed and joked, but was serious when necessary.
He was competent, trained, and professional.

He was a cop.

Although I never met him, I knew him.
He had a strong sense of right and wrong and became
frustrated when true justice became sidetracked.
He felt the sharp criticism that goes with the job, but he
never wavered.
He stood by and for his fellow officers.

He was a cop.

Although I never met him, I knew him.
He longed for his family during the long hours.
He worried about them during his shifts and the lonely
weekends, holidays and midnights when they were apart.
He felt guilty about the lost time, but knew his calling
and prayed they would understand.

He was a cop.

Although I never met him, I knew him.
He was a good son, a loving husband, and a devoted father.
He was dedicated to the profession and cared about the
people he served.
He wanted to do the best job that he could and strived to
be the best he could be.
He was a good citizen and a good neighbor.

He was a cop.

Yes, I did know him.
He was a cop, he was my Brother.

Rest easy Brother Hurst, we have the watch...

I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me.
