Reflections for Game Warden Justin Phillip Hurst

I appreciate your sacrifice, and completely understand your willingness of risk in order to protect our State's natural resources for our future generations.
Taking your life, in an attempt to avoid a road hunting case, should certainly earn your killer a "Texas IV", and I will be praying for it. God be with your family, and know that you will not be forgotten.

one officer down
put your knee to the ground.
one officer down
while we worked safe and sound.
one officer down
no one makes a sound.
one officer down
one family tears soak the ground.
one officer down
put your knee down
in a final salute to the heros'.
one officer down
may they sleep safe and sound
as his body is given now
to this hallowed ground.
his spirits comfort now
the youngest victim of a grieving town.

I was a classmate of Justin in the 48th Game Warden Academy. Justin was the Warden we all wanted to be. I hope his family can take peace in knowing how many people Justin impacted in his life. I spent six months living and training with Justin and still to this day I find myself in situations thinking, how would Justin have handled this. I can't find the words to describe this man. He was as solid as they come. God bless him and his family.

To the family and friends of Game Warden Hurst I extend my deepest sympathies and condolences. I pray that God comforts you in these very difficult days and months ahead. Although we dont know why tragedies such as this happen you all need to stay strong for each other and for his little girl. Most people fail to realize that the job of a Game Warden is a dangerous one ... all Law Enforcement is dangerous. To Game Warden Hurst's fellow officers I also extend my sympathies. And I offer my gratitude for doing an important job in my native Texas. God speed Justin Hurst.

To the family and bretheren of Officer Hurst:

I started visiting this page a few weeks ago when one of our own was shot and killed in the line of duty. The outpouring of support his family, the police, and their families received was something I never expected. I sincerely hope that you can find comfort in knowing that your "family" of fellow law enforcement officers and their loved ones is strong and vast. Officer Hurst is one of us as are you...forever and always. His sacrifice will never be forgotten.

Rest in peace.

To the family, friends, and officers that knew Warden Hurst, my thoughts and prayers are with you as you face the trying times ahead of you. Please know your not alone.

Here I am, lost in the light of the moon that comes through my window
Bathed in blue, the walls of my memory divide the thorns from the roses
It's you and the roses

Touch me and I will follow in your afterglow
Heal me from all this sorrow
As I let you go I will find my way when I see your eyes
Now I'm living in your afterglow

Here I am, lost in the ashes of time, but who wants tomorrow?
In between the longing to hold you again
I'm caught in your shadow, I'm losing control
My mind drifts away, we only have today

Touch me and I will follow in your afterglow
Heal me from all this sorrow
As I let you go I will find my way
I will sacrifice 'til the blinding day when I see your eyes
Now I'm living in your afterglow

When the veils are gone as I let you go, as I let you go

Touch me and I will follow in your afterglow
Heal me from all this sorrow
As I let you go I will find my way, I will sacrifice
Now I'm living in your afterglow

Bathed in blue, the walls of my memory divide the thorns from the roses
It's you who is closest
