As a retired auxiliary police officer in Connecticut (and former Chief), I wish to express profound sorrow to the families and friends of both officers. While our auxiliary officers were armed, it sounds as if these officers never had a chance - even if armed. I live in Virginia now and am sorry I will not be physically able to attend the funerals. My heart and soul will be with these families. As a small token of appreciation for their sacrifice and to honor their memory, I will proudly wear my own retired badge with memorial crepe for at least 30 days.

To the parents, and family of Officer Yevgeniy 'Eugene' Marshalik I offer my most sincere condolences.

The person who committed this devastating act was inhumane and unconscionable.

I pray that God will give you the graces needed to cope with all that follows in the loss of one so young who should have had his whole life ahead of him.

To the NYC Police Department and the friends of this officer I also offer my condolences.

May God's perpetual light shine upon Officer Marshalik and may he rest in His eternal peace for having made the ultimate sacrifice in protecting and serving his community.

With my deepest sympathy,

Anita L. Culosi
sister of NYS Tpr. Salvatore J. Embarrato eow 7/6/61

In the simple performance of duty,
he pinned on a badge,
checked his gear with a practiced eye,
and kissed his loved ones good-bye.
In the simple performance of duty,
he reported for work,
joked with his buddies at roll call,
and made his last trip down the squad room hall.
In the simple performance of duty,
he answered the call
to help the helpless, to find the lost,
no matter the danger or how great the cost.
In the simple performance of duty,
he lay down his life,
for those in peril he tried to save,
our brave friend went to his grave.
In the simple performance of duty,
we honor his deed,
as we carry him to rest in a flag-draped casket,
long after the world has forgotten, we shall never forget.
Never judge or regret, what he did, In the simple performance of duty."
To all who knew Officer Marshalik, we will never forget the courageous deed he did to try and help in capturing the person that had no feelings for another persons life. It meant nothing to him to take the lives of two officers and an individual that did absolutely nothing to harm the suspect.
GOD WILL WATCH OVER YOU ALL AT THIS TIME OF GRIEF.

I wish to send to my deepest sympathies to the family of Yevgeniy Marshalik, as well as the members of the NYPD and it's Auxiliary unit. You will be be in my prayers during this time of grief. As a 5 year member of Saint Paul's Police Reserve unit, I understand the dangers that come with wearing the uniform and badge. However I also understand the great satisfaction that comes from providing such a valuable service to one's community. Yevgeniy has given the ultimate sacrifice for the City of New York, and the country as a whole. He will always be remembered.

This is a terrible tragedy of the worst kind. God Bless you Officer Marshalik, you were a hero, and heros never die, as they are remembered as such by the people who loved them, and the people they protected. It sounds like you saved perhaps many lives last night. God Bless your family, and help them to be at peace, and to feel your love and protection around them. Family: I know you will forever be proud of this fine man, who VOLUNTEERED to help protect the city, and in doing so has made the ultimate sacrifice.
