My heart will forever go out to Mike's family. Mike was a very special human being, a person that once you met him you would never forget him. I remember going to a tracking class with Mike in the upstate. Prior to leaving I bought a small coffee maker so that we could have coffee in the morning inside the cabin. Well when I woke up I picked up the box and found it to be empty, Mike had taken the coffee pot and heated up some water in it so he could shave. When I asked Mike what he was doing he said "had to shave bo". See Mike was so professional that he hated to be unshaven even in the woods. I will be a better person just for knowing Mike. I once heard the saying "Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away". Mike you will forever leave all of us breathless. You and Sonja will never be forgotten my friend.

Your friend,
Nap

Aloha Deputy Phillip Michael Deese,
Thank you for your service and dedication to your community and your country. You and all officers that continue to lay your lives on the line and pay the ultimate sacrifice to keep our communities and country safe, will NEVER be forgotten.

I personally pledge, (after one of Hawaii's own Honolulu Police Officer Steve Favela, lost his life last year in the line of duty protecting our Commander in Chief, President George W. Bush), to become a continuum; a sacred keeper of the ODMP light. That sacred light is in the form of an ODMP tribute. People from all walks of life, regardless of age, race, religion, profession, education, and geographical location can share here.

This "LIGHT" comes from within the heart and soul of every person who shares their memories, stories, and celebrations on behalf of each and every fallen officer. Every fallen officer is a hero. The ODMP; Officer Down Memorial Page gives us a place to come together and share our feelings as one family.

As we read the many heartfelt tributes left behind, may we find solace as we give solace to the families who have lost a loved one. May we build upon love and faith knowing that this “bridge of tributes” will carry each and every one of us through the pain and sorrow until we meet with our beloved one again.

Deputy Phillip Michael Deese,
as we say in Hawaii, “You are`Ohana.” “You are family.” You are embraced as our own family member. No one will ever be able to replace you for you were unique and very special. No one, not in this lifetime. May God Bless you and keep you. May God allow you to rest in peace. I wish you, your loved ones, and your fellow officers peace and love beyond all understanding. I HONOR you today. You will NEVER be forgotten.

--“Your life is much more important than you can imagine.” -- Maya Angelou

In Memory of K9 Partner Sonja, who paid the ultimate sacrifice as well:

--“It's not only for fire and police, it's for the public, the canine units, anyone who needs us. It's just a matter of letting folks know we are available.” --Chris Baker.

** May this Hawaiian prayer give all those who read it comfort. **

THE PEACE OF " I "
KA MALUHIA O KA "I"

Peace be with you, All My Peace,
O ka Maluhia no me oe, Ku'u Maluhia a pau loa,

The Peace that is " I ", the Peace that is "I am".

The Peace for always, now and forever and evermore.

I worked in Region 1 (God's country), and didn't realy get to work with with Mike because he worked mostly in the lower regions (2 & 3). This is unfortunate because I knew of the caliber of office he was, but this is not what saddens me the most. Mike and his family lived only four houses away from me, and prior to my moving, I never got the chance to know them as neighbors. So I am sadden by his death and a lost opportunity. His family is in my prayers to the "Great Comforter". I know DCSO has lost one of its finest. And cleanest, he must have washed and/or cleaned his patrol vehicle every other day (lol). May God bless all who share this loss.

Mike was an incredible guy. Mike was a great cop and he was someone that you could count on being there when you needed him. I had a lot of respect for Mike for the perseverance and character that he displayed when he was involved in his shooting and the positive attitude that he displayed while going through rehab.

Mike epitomized what all cops should aspire to be like. Mike was a true cop and a hard working professional that commanded respect of others because of his clean-neat appearance and behavior. Mike exemplified the professional image that has come to be expected of law enforcement by the public.

We will miss you and Sonja dearly brother.
