Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Deputy Phillip Michael Deese

My deepest condolences to the family and friends of Deputy Deese at this most tragic time. Brother Deese may you and your partner Sonja rest in peace.

Deputy J. Williamson K9 Unit
Fairfield County Sheriff's Office

March 11, 2007

Deputy Deese,

Thank you for your service and your sacrifice. K9 Officers are a special "breed", certainly a family within a family...Police family that is. I will say a special prayer for your loved ones that they may find comfort in one another and comfort in their memories of you and your faithful friend and partner Sonja.

You will not be forgotten...

"I'll Wait -

A police K9 explained to St. Peter
I'd rather stay here,
Outside the Pearly Gate.
I can’t come in yet, you see,
as my handler and partner is not yet with me.
I’ll be very quiet as I sit and wait,
I'll watch over him and pray that he's late.
Because those who love him dearly,
Still need his protection.
And the ones who don’t know him,
But still need his help.
I'll be very patient and wait,
I'll never let out a whimper or yelp.
I’ll be chewing my celestial bone,
Waiting for my partner to come home.
It would not be right if I went in alone,
For without my partner you see;
It just wouldn't be Heaven to me,
Without crossing the gates
Right by his side.

The policeman stood and faced his God,which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, policeman. How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To my church have you been true?
The policeman squared his shoulders and said.
"No, I guess I ain't because those of us who carry a badge can't always be a Saint."
I've had to work most Sundays
and at times my talk is rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
because the streets are awfully tough.
But I never took a penny that wasn't mine to keep.
though I worked a lot of overtime when the bills got too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help
though at times I shook with fear,
and sometimes, God forgive me, I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place among the people here.
They never wanted me around except to calm their fear.
If you've a place for me here, Lord, it needn't be so grand,
I never expected or had too much, but if you don't...I'll understand"
There was a silence all around the throne where the Saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly for the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now, policeman.
You've borne you burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets.
You've done your time in Hell"

I AM A WARRIOR
by Jon F. Hooper

I fight not for glory or fame,
For they are momentary.
I fight for those who can't.
I fight for Justice.
I fight for the oppressed and the down trodden.
And if I should lose my life for these just causes, then I have no regrets,
For I serve to protect the innocent.
It matters not where or when,
For evil knows no boundaries.
Be it fire, flood, or the threat of tyranny,
I will not flee.
Justice is my weapon.
Faith is my shield.
Hope is my armor.
Cry not at my passing,
For it was my Honor to fight for you.
Shed not tears of sorrow,
But tears of joy,
For now,
I stand with God.

Rest in Peace my Brother. We may have lost a Warrior, but we gained a Guardian Angel. May you and Sonja keep watch over us as we carry on the good fight.

Deputy Deese and K9 Sonja and their family friends and co workers,

I am so sorry for the loss of Deputy Deese and Sonja. Being friends with k9 Officers I know the family and Departemnt did not lose one loved one they lost two loved ones. How appropriate though that they went together as the close partners they were.

Know that all of you are in our thoughts and prayers.
