The Sheriffs of Florida and their deputies will never forget the sacrifice you and your family made to uphold our laws and protect society.

Your name has been inscribed on the Florida Sheriffs and the National Law Enforcement Memorial and in our hearts. May you forever rest in peace.

A scripture inscribed on the Florida Sheriffs Law Enforcement Memorial:

Your heroism and service is honored today, the ninety-first anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Dear Deputy Owens:

How could a sacrifice so costly be overlooked? Fortunately it has been rectified. But your sacrifice is appreciated and remembered, and has made you a hero...an American hero.
I truly pray that you are content with the fact that the vermin who did this received instant justice, and will never again hurt anyone. I pray you are at peace now, knowing that what you did and gave, has helped to create better training and tactics for police officers, in our constant, neverending battle with criminals.
You will always be a part of us. Police officers never really die, they just patrol the streets of heaven. Rest in peace, my brother, Godspeed. Amen
