Reflections for Sergeant Tommaso Popolizio

Our Hero Of Blue

Our hero of blue has fallen
A time of peace is calling
For you to go with God above
He'll give you wings of blue with love
To send a message for everyone
To remember a life and what was done
A dream fulfilled of our angel of blue
We honor you for the job you swore to do
A promise was kept from a hero like you
You put your life on the line each day
To protect and serve in everyway
And to give you thanks we will do our part
To share your message and to keep you in our heart

This is dedicated to all Police Officers and Families

Sgt. Popolizio, in addition to your badge, you now wear wings as you walk the Beat in Heaven! May the Lord rest your soul, may he give your family & friends serenity, strength and courage to carry on!! May your children be reminded of their father as a good man and a "HERO" as we will remember you as a "Brother in Blue" Thank you for your service & sacrifice in the East Ward (downneck) and the City of Newark! You will forever be remembered as one of Newark's Finest and a Hero!

I saw this poem on the internet and found it appropriate to your memory...

The Final Inspection

The Policeman stood and faced his God,
Which must always come to pass,
he hoped his shoes were shining,
Just as bright as his brass.
"Step forward now, policeman"
"How shall i deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To my church have you been true?"
The policeman squared his shoulders
and said, "No Lord, I guess I ain't
because those who carry badges,
Can't always be a saint.
"I’ve had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough
and sometimes I've been violent
because the streets are awfully tough."
And i never passed a cry for help
Though at times i shook with fear,
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I wept many tears.
"I know I don’t deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around,
Except to calm their fear."
"If you've a place for me, Lord
It needn't be so grand,
I never expected or had too much,
But, if you don't I'll understand."
There was a silence all around the throne,
Where saints had often trod,
As the policeman waited quietly,
for his judgment of his God,
"Step forward now, policeman,
You've borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on heavens streets,
You've done your time in hell.

My prayers go out to you, your family and Newark PD.
Good bye for now, as we will meet in Heaven !!
Rest in Peace

Words cannot describe NPD's loss. Many wonderful reflections say Rest In Peace but mine WILL NOT! Pop never rested, he was on duty 24/7. Regardless of rank he was a COP. I have no doubt Pop is on patrol on the streets of heaven. We have lost a friend, a classmate and most of all a great cop but in this loss we have gained a guardian angel because I am sure when we call for back up Pop will be there in spirit. We'll miss you!

The Final Inspection

The policeman stood and faced his God, which must always come to pass.

He hoped his shoes were shining just as brightly as his brass.

"Step forward now, policeman. How shall I deal with you?

Have you always turned the other cheek?

To my church have you been true?

The policeman squared his shoulders and said.

"No, I guess I ain't because those of us who carry a badge

can't always be a Saint."

I've had to work most Sundays

and at times my talk is rough,

and sometimes I've been violent,

because the streets are awfully tough.

But I never took a penny that wasn't mine to keep...

Though I worked a lot of overtime when the bills got to steep.

And I never passed a cry for help

though at times I shook with fear,

and sometimes, God forgive me, I've wept unmanly tears.

I know I don't deserve a place among the people here.

They never wanted me around except to calm their fear.

If you've a place for me here, Lord, it needn't be so grand,

I never expected or had too much, ... but if you don't ... I'll understand"

There was a silence all around the throne where the Saints had often trod.

As the policeman waited quietly for the judgment of his God.

"Step forward now, policeman.

You've borne you burdens well.

Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets.

You've done your time in Hell"
