I was proud to have worked with Sergeant "Pop" in both the 5th and the 3rd Precincts. He never asked an officer to do something that he would not do himself. He had the inate ability to take an average officer and instill in him a sense of pride and purpose. He turned young men and women into "cops" and not in a derogatory term. He made everyone realize that in this day and age, it is still possible to love what you do. Making the City of Newark a better place was his only ambition and he was relentless in constantly improving Newark's quality of life. He demanded the best from his officers and they were willing to give their best and then some. No amount of tears, no words can express the tragic loss to both his family and the entire law enforcement community. We have lost one of our favorite sons. He was more than a co-worker, more than a friend, he was a brother to us all, Officers and citizens alike. There will never be another "Pop".

It was a pleasure working together with you my brother, not too many like you out here and this loss is deeply felt through your many friends. I still cannot believe what has happened or why. Though many will talk only some really remember you as you were when braking bread together on our many well done assignments. May this memory of you always stay fresh in our hearts as an example of what a true cops cop should be. May God keep you in his glory and bless your family forever..."QUE DIOS TE BENDIGA MI HERMANO!"

Be still like the grass
on a melancholy summer day

Be still like desert shrub

Be calm and you will hear
your loved one speak
in the stillness
in the calm
their love resounds.

If you are still
this promise I make
you will hear the voice
of your loved one
helping you along your way
