Reflections for Detective Keith Dressel

To the family and community of Keith Dressel. I am so saddend and my prayers are with all who are feeling the pain of the loss of an officer. Keith is truely a hero. I feel safe knowing that officers like Mr. Dressel are on the streets while I am a sleep and my children tucked away in bed for the night. Mrs. Dressel, don't think that he did not leave our community that he loved or your home being a husband and father in vein. Alot of changes will happen. parents will (I hope) pay closer attention to their children and I hope that the police will wear a vest. Mrs. Dressel, we never know how GOD is going to use us in this life but, your husband will always be rememerberd in this city and a household name in many homes (as a man who did what he loved to do) protect and serve.

Our family would like to send out thoughts and prayers to the families of all whose lives were touched by Detective Dressel. It sounds like he was a great guy. I'm sure he will be greatly missed. We respect the jobs of all police officers in keeping our communities safe. Unfortunately there are others that don't. Stay safe, and God Bless you all!

I am a 16 year old girl in Toledo, Ohio, and I have never met you, or never even heard of you before today. I do, however, respect what you did everyday. For someone to be able to go out and work to protect others, knowing that they may find problems on the way, is amazing to me. You may not know me personally, nor I you, but you did work to help complete strangers--and you have no idea how much that means to so many people. You helped to keep me, my city, my friends, and my family safe. You made it your business for others to be taken care of, and I just wanted to thank you for that.

To the family and friends of Keith Dressel, I express every condolence possible to you, and want you to know that I respect what he did. No one deserves for this to happen, and this is a true tragedy. Thank you and I am so sorry. May you find some sort of peace in this time of hurt.

My heart sunk and tears came to my eyes this morning when I heard Keith's name on the radio. It made me feel sick that while I was sleeping last night, this sweet guy that I graduated from high school with was losing his life. I hadn't talked to Keith in many years, but I always remember him greeting me with a smile every morning during the years we spent together at Whiteford.

My deepest sympathies go out to his family, and particularly his wife and children. My two boys are ages seven and three, and it just breaks my heart to think of his wife and children without Keith. God bless you and know that Keith will be looking over you and protecting you forever.

Rest in Peace, Keith. You were loved, and you will be missed.

A lot of people do not understand how large the police family is. From coast to coast and border to border each loss is felt by us in one way or another. We memorialize our loss by a beer and or a tear. It hurts a lot more when it is close to home. I have bowled and played softball against Toledo P.D. during my career. You make longtime friends or aquaintences from seeing them a couple times a year. From my family to the family of Det. Dressel.May his soul rest in peace and may God watch over you during this tragic time.

Keith was one of my youngest brother's best friends, going back to high school. I have known him for 20 years, and I can say that of the many friends I have on the TPD, I don't know if any enjoyed their jobs as much as Keith did. He had a big grin on his face every time I ran into him. My family and his friends will miss him, and Toledo has lost a good cop. The only thing any of us want to do at the end of the day is to come back home. Good bye and God bless, Keith.

Detective Dressel,

Final Inspection

The Policeman stood and faced his God,
which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining,
just as brightly as his brass.

"Step forward now policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To my church have you been true?

The Policeman squared his shoulders and said,
"No Lord I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry a badge
can't always be a saint."

I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
because the streets are awfully tough.

But I never took a penny,
that wasn't mine to keep.
Though I worked a lot of overtime
when the bills got just to steep.

And I never passed a cry for help,
though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've cried unmanly tears.

I know I don't deserve a place
among the people here.
They never wanted me around
except to calm their fears.

If you've a place for me here, Lord,
It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had to much,
but if you don't I'll understand.

There was silence all around the Throne
where the saints had often trod.
As the Policeman waited quietly,
for the judgment of his God.

"Step forward now, Policeman,
you've borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
you've done your time in Hell."
