Rest in Peace, John.

As I read your reflection, I think about my own career... ...we both have two years on the job and your traffic stop could be any one of the traffic stops I make on a daily basis.

To the Holly family, I make a promise to you as I do whenever I leave a reflection: I promise to continue John's work, and his memory will live on as long as I wear my star with pride remembering the sacrifices of my fellow brothers.

May God grant you Peace.

Thank you for making the streets of Glendale safe. I lived there for many years and know what a tough job that is. You will never be forgotten.

THE POLICEMAN STOOD AND FACED HIS GOD, WHICH MUST ALWAYS COME TO PASS. HE
HOPED HIS SHOES WERE SHINING, JUST AS BRIGHTLY AS HIS BRASS. "STEP FORWARD
NOW, POLICEMAN. HOW SHALL I DEAL WITH YOU? HAVE YOU ALWAYS TURNED THE OTHER
CHEEK? TO MY CHURCH HAVE YOU BEEN TRUE?"

THE POLICEMAN SQUARED his shoulders and said, "No, Lord, I guess I ain't.
Because those of us who carry badges can't always be a Saint. I've had to
work most Sundays, and at times my talk was rough, and sometimes I've been
violent because the streets are awfully tough. But I never took a penny that
wasn't mine to keep, though I worked a lot of overtime when the bills just
got to steep. And I never passed a cry for help, though times I shook with
fear. And sometimes, God forgive me, I've wept many unmanly tears. I know I
don't deserve a place among the people here, they never wanted me around
except to calm their fear. If you've a place for me Lord, it needn't be so
grand. I never expected or had too much, but if you don't, I'll understand."

There was silence all around the throne where the Saints had often trod. As
the policeman waited quietly, for the judgement of his God. "Step forward
now, policeman, you've borne your burdens well. Come walk a beat on Heaven's
streets, you've done your time in hell."

To the family, friends, loved ones and all who wear the badge of law enforcement.....We here at the Canon City Internet Radio send our prayers and our thoughts to all of you.. it doesn't seem enough but hopefully in time you will read these reflections and know how many (especially who did not know PO Holly) personally, that he will always be in the hearts of all and prayers.
"A Part Of America Died,"
Somebody killed a policeman today,
And part of America died.
A piece of our country he swore to protect,
Will be buried with him at his side.
The suspect that shot him will stand up in court,
With counsel demanding his rights.
While a young widowed mother must work for her kids,
And spend many long lonely nights.
The beat he walked was a battle field too
just as if he had gone off to war.
Though the flag of our nation won't fly at half mast,
To his name they will add a gold star.
Yes, somebody killed a policeman today,
In your town or mine,
While we slept in comfort behind locked doors,
A cop put his life on the line.
Now his ghost walks a beat on a dark city street,
And stands at each new rookies' side.
He answered the call,of himself and gave his all,
And a part of America died.

Officer Holly, our prayers are with your family, friends, co-workers, and the fine citizens of Glendale. What a senseless act of violence that claimed your life. We are grateful that your killer was captured, and that he will face justice both in this life and the next.

You will not be forgotten, Officer Holly; rest in peace, sir.

Tony,
I did not know you well, but I do recall teaching several classes during your time at the academy, and then having you on the 24C squad for a short time after I was newly promoted. Please know that your brothers and sisters in our department miss you deeply. It pains me to know we passed each other at the station not 20 minutes before we lost you. I also need to mention that just this morning I overheard someone say, "Gee, he had a really great smile, and it was infectious too." I have to agree. You will never, ever be forgotten by your fellow officers and co-workers. Thank you so much for the time you spent with us, and for the infectious smile! Our thoughts and prayers are with your family, friends, and loved ones. Please watch over us now as we continue the fight. May you rest in peace.
