Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Daniel Browne-Sanchez

Daniel Sanchez,

Even though I didn't get to know you as well as I wished I had, those times that we did interact, I had a great deal of respect for you as a person first, than a co-worker. You humbled yourself in paying respect to the old timers such as myself by shaking hands, reminding all of us that we are of the same shade of brown no matter where we worked.

I know in my heart that God started out by blessing your parents with a valuable gift of life to mold and cherish. Your parents started by sharing that love that they had for each other with you. That love became a shield in which your family was comforted and depended upon. As the years went on, the shield was tested and made stronger.

If seems that you joined the Sheriff's Office maybe seeing the same type of family unity that you had with your parents. We were very lucky that we were able to experience such a caring and dedicated individual such as yourself and will forever keep your mother in our prayers.

God Bless & Keep You

Mrs. Browne-Sanchez,

I would like to express our deepest sympathy from my family and myself. I met Dan while he was assigned to the District Court Patrol Section. Upon meeting Dan, he impressed me as being a very sincere person. He was always willing to help if you need assistance. From talking to other deputies that went through the academy and worked with him, I got the very good impression that your son would do anything to help others.

What Dan did that early morning was courage's and as it says in Psalm 112:8-9: "They are confident and fearless and can face their foes triumphantly. They share freely and give generously to those in need. Their good deeds will be remembered forever. They will have influence and honor." You can take comfort in knowing, Dan did what he was trained to do, think of other peoples safety before his own. If it was not for Dan's courage and bravery, there would have been more innocent people hurt or killed. Your son will always be remembered as a hero to me and to the other deputies who wear the badge of a State of Hawaii Deputy Sheriff.

May he rest in peace.

Dan, I know you can see how much all of us are grieving the loss of you, the pain is great for all of your brothers and sisters, but as I'm sure you know the pain for your mother is greater. I can tell you Dan, that in the few days that I have known your mother while helping all of our brothers and sisters plan the final tribute to your life and ultimate sacrifice, it has been very difficult watching while your mother tries to make sense of it all. As I'm sure you know, your mother is a very strong women and is doing well considering. I have learned a lot more than I already knew about you from your mother, and the biggest lesson is that your mothers love for you is unmatched by anyone I have ever met. She misses you very much and wishes things that haven't been said to each other, and things that haven't been done together could have been. She will miss seeing you grow into the man, husband, friend, father, or even grandfather that she knows you could have been if that was the direction your life took you. We are all trying to make sure that your mother is well taken care of during this difficult time. Her dear friend Linda has been a god send for her and we are grateful that she is here to provide the support that she needs. Most of all Dan, as a supervisor and a friend, it has been an honor knowing you and I promise you and your mother that the Sheriffs' in the Great State of Hawaii will never, ever forget the sacrifice that you made to protect others!

Me ke aloha pumehana,

your friend, Mike
