My thoughts and prayers go out to Sergeant Nicholas Sottile's family, friends,Co-Workers and especially to Mrs. Sottile and children. This tragedy is not an easy pill to swallow. We are going through a Healing process which is very slow. Our son-in-law Officer Tom Wood was shot and killed in line of duty Oct.23, 2006. While Officer Wood and Seargent Sottile watch over us from Heaven, may we live our lives with Faith and God will carry us on.

May God Bless All of you.

I WENT TO YOUR FUNERAL A FEW DAYS AGO. IM SURE YOU SAW THE COMMUNITY STANDING ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WITH THEIR FLAGS, AND SIGNS, ALL FOR YOU. SOME WHERE CRYING, OTHERS HAD THEIR HAND ON THEIR HEARTS AS WE ALL DROVE PAST. NOT TOO OFTEN DO WE SEE THAT KIND OF RESPECT ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. ITS A SHAME YOU DID NOT SEE THAT RESPECT ON YOUR LAST TRAFFIC STOP. I COULDN'T HELP BUT TO HAVE SOME TEARS IN MY EYES WHILE I WAS ON THAT LONG DRIVE TO THE CEMETARY. TO THINK ABOUT WHAT YOUR FAMILY AND COMMUNITY HAS LOST. TO SEE WHAT YOUR FAMILY AND COMMUNITY FELT FOR YOU IS BEAUTIFUL. PLEASE KEEP WATCH OVER THEM ALL. PLEASE KEEP "US" YOUR FELLOW TROOPERS SAFE ON OUR TRAFFIC STOPS. I DID NOT KNOW YOU PERSONALLY BUT FEEL A CONNECTION TO YOU FROM BEING WITH FHP. I'VE PRAYED FOR YOU COUNTLESS TIMES FROM THE TIME THEY CALLED OUT THE OFFICER SAFETY BOLO WHEN YOU WERE SHOT TILL THIS MORINING WHEN I TOOK A 10-8 TO WORK. BLESS YOU SIR...

I had the pleasure of spending many summer hours with Nicky and Liz in the early 1980's. We had so much fun hanging out with a group of friends in Placid Lakes usually with the radio playing the “hits” that are now oldies! It would brighten our day just to see Nicky pull his Camero into the parking lot. The fun really began when we would build a 4 (or was it 5?!) person pyramid in the pool. And of course, there was laughter. And lots of it, because Nicky had such a great sense of humor.

At that time in our lives, we were all young and full of hopes and dreams for the future. From the postings and news reports it is clear to me that Nicky’s dreams came true - a wonderful family and a respected career caring for his community. To realize his plans for retirement were so close at hand, but then cut short in such a senseless manner is horrific.

This tragedy has led me to reach out to my Law Enforcement friends and tell them how much I appreciate their efforts and sacrifice. Not just the Officers themselves, but also their loved ones who live with fear every time duty calls.

Liz, my thoughts and prayers are with you, your children, Jimmy, the rest of the Sottile family, and the community. The world has lost a wonderful man.

We never met but your death, in the line of duty, made you a bigger hero than you already were. The job you loved is dangerous, but you gave it your all. Take this promotion and enjoy it. God bless you and your family, and especially look over your son who is carrying on the fine tradition you led.

I often wonder what would happen if all of us went through life and never met the people that we are destine to meet.
If I had never met Larry Homer, I would have never met my wife, which means I would have never transferred to Troop F-Arcadia, which means I would have never had the opportunity to meet, work with and have such a good friend as I did in Nick. He was my Traffic Homicide partner and he taught me well. We had a lot of fun times together, He liked to cook and I liked to eat it. Then we'd see who had the first food stain on our uniform.
The first of the year I called Nick to say Hi, I never thought in a million years I would have the honor of being a pallbearer at his funeral almost two weeks later. I miss Nick and I wish I could bring him back to us but I know I can't. So for now.... I will try and live my life, spend more time with my famliy and work as hard as he did and hopefully, I pray that I can be as great of a man as he was. Rest in peace my Friend.

Mrs. Sottile and family I am so sorry to hear that Officer Sottile has past. Our families spent many years as friends. I remember many memories of the whole family and this is truely a loss to you and many other people. Everyday he showed great pride of his profession, in uniform or not. Little Nick I know this is hard on you all and the family and force has lost a great man, I hope that you continue to follow his footsteps, we will all be that much safer knowing you are protecting us, after all you learned from one of the best possible. All my love, Brandi Wilcox

With all the beautiful and symbolic words in the English language none do justice to express the grattitude we have for the 24 years you have given to protect us. May you rest peacefully and be reunited with your family in the afterlife.

To Sergeant Sottile's family - we say thank you. His life will not be in vain. We will continue where he left off protecting the innocent and bringing those others to justice.

Submitted respectfully on behalf of myself and my department,

Officer Matthew Lewek
