Jon, I just finished a 25 mile walk for COPS along the C&O Canal Towpath (part of the Appalachian Trail). This walk has become a healing process for me in many ways. I have met a lot of families with stories so simular to ours. I never thought of myself as a survivor but with the help of God and a lot of prayer I am one day at a time. Jon it was our privilege and honor to walk in your memory. You were one of KSP's finest. You will forever be in our hearts. Love Mom

Jon,
I was just thinking about you this week. I miss seeing your smiling face and hearing your laughter when you stopped by Jason and Kellie's. One of the last times I saw you, you came to borrow Jason's cruiser. You were an inspiration to all who knew and loved you. Keep watching over us from Heaven's Gate. We are all a lot better people for having known you. May God Bless your family and friends I know how much we all miss you.

Jon,
I sure miss you. Dec.19, 2006 started like any other day. Little did I know how drastically our lives, as we knew them, would drastically be changed. If life could only bring back all the days we took for granted. To hear your voice or see that silly smile from ear to ear. Oh, what I would give for just a little more time to say so many things that slipped my mind. I have so many memories to help me through until we meet again.
I sure miss you. Life, for us, will never be the same with you not here. Each of the past seventeen months has brought so much pain. Not just for us, but for all the people who knew and loved you.
Jon, we do not understand God's master plan. We have to have faith. With God's grace, our strength will remain. I know heaven is sweeter with you there on patrol. Little things you said or did are now frozen in my mind. I cherish every memory I have of you.
I always thought I was helping to shape and mold your life. Instead you, Josh and Chad have made me the person that I am today. My children are my heroes.
We are on our way to Washington D.C. to honor K.S.P. Trooper Johnny Adkins along with all the other 2007 Fallen Officers. I know we are going with your blessing. I hope our being there helps Rhonda and her family as much as the KSP Family helped and supported us last year. The K.S.P Family is still supporting us everyday. We are so blessed.
Jon, I know you were so proud and honored to be a member of the Kentucky State Police family. Your short career made such a difference in so many people's lives. We can never repay the kindness of so many people. I know you are pleased.
We love & miss you,
Mom

"The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

I can't believe a year has passed since I last talked to you, since I last saw you and rubbed your bald head! During that year I have thought about you thousands of times and I still miss you more than words can say. Your family has been wonderful in including us in everything they do to memorialize what a terrific person and trooper you were. After getting to know them and learning what special people they are it's easy to see how you turned out to be such a great person. Whether you knew it or not you touched the lives of many people and will never be forgotten.

It is so hard for me to believe that we have made it through a year without you, Jonathan. When the time rolled over to midnight and it was officially December 19th, your absence in our lives was so obvious to me. So much has happened this year since you were taken from us, yet it seems like it all happened in such a short amount of time. Each day, I carry thoughts of you with me to work as I wear my black bracelet. I don't know that I'll ever stop wearing it, because I don't know that I'll ever live a day that you are not on my mind. Thank you for choosing this profession - you were so good at it. Thank you for bringing your smile and positive influence to those around you. And most of all, thank you for being a part of all of us. We miss you so much.

Jonathan,
As the one-year mark of your death approaches, I find that I have thought about you on a daily basis. I have the wrist band from your funeral on my dresser. Each morning as I pass it to begin my day, I touch it lightly and say a prayer for your family and all our Troopers. Each night, as I wait on phone calls from my husband (who works your old area) to make sure he is okay, I stop momentarily to touch the wrist band and say another prayer for your family and our Troopers. It may surprise some that your death has effected me in such a way that I think about it daily, because I did not know you--had never met you. But, my husband wears the KSP uniform and I never know when he begins a shift, if he will end it alive. I've read every reflection, I was at your funeral, I've heard your fellow Troopers talk about you, and I've concluded that you are one worth remembering--one that I can't help but hope is guarding my husband and all other Troopers. I am thankful my husband had the priviledge of working with you, that you were the heart of a true State Trooper. God Bless you, 750--Rest in peace.

Jon Boy, How proud you made all of us. We'll never forget watching you grow up with the blonde locks of curls, and not thinking Christen (Kikki)as you boys called her was
not too girlish to play boy stuff too. You lost the curls and the binkies then we got watch you guys playing ball at bevins and then following you and Joshy to Belfry. Jon ,I'll never be able to thank you for watching out for Cory, you gave him a new respect not for only what you were doing but your fellow comrades. There's not a day goes by that you are not in our thoughts, and my peace lily is almost as big as you, that was big. We are taking care of Kay-Kay,Joshua and your daddy, can't leave out Abby and Sebastion. You'd love the pool house, and your presence was felt at yours' and joshys' b-day party. We love you, we'll see you soon. Always, watch for the ballons if their not from your mom Sum-sum and Abbygail sends you some.Summer looks for you and She-she everynight when the stars are out. What gets us all through Jon is this verse: Ican do all things through Christ which strenthenth me/ Phillipians4:14 We love you 750. Meet us all at the River!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I really dont know where to begin, but by sayin you were the prime example of what a Ky State Trooper is...A man of Integrity and Sincerity, willing to risk it all for what you stand for. I had the blessing of knowing you and your fiance, spending the Friday night with you guys before God called you into his arms...You were a blessing and there is not a day that goes by that we dont think of you and your family...I will never forget that moment when we heard the news...My husband also a Post 9 Trooper got the call you were in a accident, so we turned on the radio, only to hear cancel the heicopter, we need the corner...My stomach turned and I began to cry...my husband got sleint...not a word...He stromed off to the scene of the accident where he was devastated...Still to this day we both wear the braclet with you name...You will ALWAYS be in our hearts! You will Never be forgotten! May you keep your arms wraped around all your fellow Troopers and be their Guardian Angel!
We Love You 750!!

Jonathan,

I never forget that morning when I learned of your tragic death. The uniform we share means far more than Pride, Professionalism, Dedication, Integrity and honor...it means Family! You my brother are part of a family that most can't imagine. Even though I never met you, I know the type of person it takes to be a Kentucky State Trooper!

I was recently in Frankfort and stopped in at Headquarters and for the first time saw your name added to the wall. My heart ached, my mind raced back to December and that sad day! Soon afterwards I found myself at KSPPA to pick up a few things. As always I went and looked at our fallen Troopers. On this visit I saw that there too you had your plaque on the wall. Once again I was overwhelmed. I tell you this to remind you that you are not forgotten, you remain in the memory of each and every Trooper, each and every day. We all have our ways of remembering you and the 23 others.

Jonathan you were one of the very best and by reading what your fellow Troopers from Post 9 have written, you can never be replaced. It has been six months and I tell you we can't forget!

Today a fellow Police Chief in Kentucky was killed in the line of duty and thoughts of you have flooded my mind. I just wanted to let you know that you, your family and friends are not forgotten.

Sleep well dear brother and thank you for your dedicated service!

Jon, I have the wrist band from your funeral on top of my gun safe where I stand every day as I put that gray uniform on. I look at it each and every day so I can make sure that I never forget. I had inservice at headquarters last month. When I walked in the lobby on Monday morning I looked at the memorial wall and saw your picture. What a humbling experience. Please know that you and your family are still in my thoughts and prayers each day.

Goodspeed my brother.
