Steve,
We first met when we flew up to Cape May, New Jersey to attend the Coast Guard Reserve basic training. From the day I met you, I knew you'd be a life long friend. You were easy to talk to, and always made me laugh. I can still hear your laugh, and see that smile on your face, my brother. You could always be depended on as a friend. I think we all draw comfort in knowing that your children will be taken care of, as they are surrounded by love and support. My deepest sympathy goes out to Barbara and your entire family. Until we meet again, my brother, my friend...

To the family, friends, co-workers and the poeple of Hawaii, my deepest sympathy on the loss of a fine Officer in Blue. May God hold all of you in His Hand as you struggle with Steve's passing.
I'm Free

Don't grieve for me, for now I'm free.
I'm following the path God has laid you see.
I took His hand when I heard Him call
I turned my back and left it all.

I could not stay another day
To laugh, to love, to work or play.
Tasks left undone must stay that way
I found that peace at the close of the day.

If my parting has left a void,
Then fill it with remembered joys.
A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss.
Oh yes, these things I too will miss.

Be not burdened with times of sorrow.
I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow.
My life's been full, I shared much,
Good friends, good times, a loved one's touch.

Perhaps my time seemed all to brief.
Don't lengthen it now with undue grief.
Lift up your hearts and peace to thee.
God wanted me now, He set me free!

Aloha, Annette Kitagawa

When I graduated from HPD's Academy, my first assignment was at the Kalihi Substation, day watch, sector 4. There, I got to work with an awesome group of officers which included Officer Steve Favela. His hard work and dedication to the job taught me a lot. But probably what I'll remember the most was that he always made it fun to come to work. Being a police officer is a tough job, but Steve showed me that it can also be a fun job. I have never forgotten that. Steve, you'll be missed. But I know your life will live on in lives of the many people and police officers whom you've greatly impacted over these past few years. My wife and I will keep your family in our prayers....
