Reflections for Detective Kevin Shumway Orr

TO MY HERO

About 11 years ago, Detective Kevin Orr was hired on with the Uintah County Sheriff's Office. He would call me all the time and tell of all the things going on with the job. Telling me that I needed to come out and go on a ride along with him. He told me if I did I to would want to get into law enforcement. He was right. Although it took me about 8 more years of all the stories and meeting his co-worker. To see the love he had for each of them. I new that I needed to be part of this BAND OF BROTHERS. I got hired of with the Uintah County Sheriff's Office, in July of 2003. I was only in Vernal for a short time before I got a job with the San Juan Co. Sheriff's Office. It is so good to be apart of this BAND OF BROTHERS, that all of law enforcement has. Most of all it was good to be Detective Kevin Orrs (twin brother) I will miss the 2 or 3 times a week that we talked on the phone. I don't how I will go on with out you, but I guess I will half to. Kevin I love you and miss you. You are my HERO.

To anyone who knew Kevin, they know the type of person he was - passionate to the job, his wife, children and friends. He was a strong influence in our Department as well as the community and a wonderful human being. His smile was contagious as was his zest for life. He is strongly missed, by all of his breathern as well as his family. No doubt he was welcomed to heaven without any hesitation by "The Powers to be". He knows his family will be taken care of by his co-workers. May he rest in peace.

I really never thought that day when you said good-bye that it would be your last good bye. I still think that you are on vacation or something and that when you walk in the door I will say, "how is your day" and you will reply, "Peachy"! Thanks for your friendship, I will never forget all of the talks that we had, and ESPECIALLY your magic.
Thanks for trying to instill in myself that there is life out there, cause maybe you were right, as I think of you many times throughout each and every day, I actually feel a sense of calming and peacefulness and I think that maybe it is you.
I miss you every day and I really wish that you would come back, and I will never understand and probably always question, Why? I do understand though, that we all live to die, and it is not my place in this world to question WHY!

FOOTPRINTS IN THE SAND

One night a man had a dream. He dreamed he was walking along the beach with the Lord. Across the sky flashed scenes from his life. Each scene, he noticed, began with two sets of footprints in the sand: one belonging to him, and the other to the Lord.
When the last scene of his life flashed before him, he looked back at the footprints in the sand. He noticed that at times along the path of his life, the pattern altered, so that there was only one set of footprints. He also noticed that it happened at the very lowest and saddest times in his life. This really troubled him and he questioned the Lord about it.
“Lord, you said that once I decided to follow you, you’d walk with me all the way. But I’ve noticed that during the most troublesome times in my life, there is only one set of footprints.. I don’t understand why, when I needed you most, you would leave me.”
The Lord replied, “My son, my precious child, I love you and I would never leave you. During your times of trial and suffering, when you see only one set of footprints, it was then that I carried you.

Kevin,
The last thoughts I have are of you, your son, Me and Wyatt on the fishing trip we took as family this summer. I am still in shock that this has happened as I look at our pictures I can still hear each of us laugh as everyone took turns vomiting off the boat from sea sickness. Betting which of the 2 of us were next to be running to the back section of the boat..

That was a good day! I will truly miss you and the person you are. Traveling together to work before you became an officer helped inspire me to serve others in California for two years. Thanks for you example, friendship and brotherhood! You are missed but never forgotten.. See you on the other side..

I went to the same highschool as Kevin and his twin brother Damon. Kevin was a friend to all, and will be missed dearly. I have been in law enforcement for 10 years now, and you never think you will have to face the fact of a friend or fellow officer paying the ultimate sacrifice, but they do, and I guess that's what separates us from other people. I am proud to have known Kevin, and I hope to help his legacy live on. I work with his brother Damon and his talks about his brothers courage daily. I know we will all miss him dearly and his family even more. I pray for his wife and kids and family and hope they will find comfort in the fact that we will not forget them, and we will all live our lives better because of Kevin. Thank you, Rob Wilcox.

I never dreamed it would be me
My name for all eternity
Recorded here at this hallowed place
Alas, my name, no more my face

"In the line of duty" I hear them say
My family now the price will pay
My folded flag stained with their tears
We only had those few short years

The badge no longer on my chest
I sleep now in eternal rest
My sword I pass to those behind
And pray they keep this thought in mind

I never dreamed it would be me
And with heavy heart and bended knee
I ask for all here from the past
Dear God, let my name be the last

God bless you and your family my hearts and prayers are with you

Kevin - it's hard to leave a reflection that would do justice to a wonderful person. You certainly impacted all of our lives and we have felt the void that you have left here in our department

You always made it very well known that the most important thing in your life was your wife and children. You were a dedicated father, husband, and friend and I will always remember that. Please watch over all of us in the department as we continue with this job we all love and have dedicated our lives to.

God be with you till we meet again.

While we mourn the tragic passing of our brother in uniform, we are reminded that each act of courage- large or small-is not what makes us Heroes, but makes us all Americans.

With every passing of a Fallen Officer we grow ever stronger with our dedication to serve. Thank you Deputy Orr for your example of our fiber. For we don't know how to say goodbye, we will see you in another day. As we look at the stars at night, we see the reflection of your badge.

May God be with you and your family.
