I was thinking of you today nearing your 3 year anniversary in heaven. I was remembering how you and Jamie were best friends wherever one was the other was. I am praying for your family and friends as the day approaches.

Dad,
It's hard to sit here and believe it's already been two years. It seems like just yesterday I was finding out at work. I went onto your myspace I set up for you and couldn't believe the people who left messages. I guess I'm not the only one who misses you a great deal. I LOVE YOU!

This day is a sad one as it was for the last two years, and will continue to be forever. I spent today remembering all the goofy stuff we did on and off duty.

I miss you brother the same as I did two years ago, I miss you !

"The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

I just wanted to say I love you and miss you. We went shopping the other day and I finally found a statue of a pig to but on your grave site. I still can't look at one without laughing and thinking about you and your wild adventure with them. We love you and miss you so much, holidays just aren't the same without you. I LOVE YOU!!!

Over one year has passed since your EOW and I know your loved ones think of you every hour of every day. Continue to keep watch over all of them and let them feel your presence so they know you are near and watching over them. I have decorated the exterior of my home in all blue lights for Christmas, one of those lights has been assigned to you and will be lit every night until New Years to let you know that you have not been forgotten. You are a true hero.

Dennis,

It’s been a year Saturday that Me and Steven got that assist call on Jimmy Deloach Parkway, what a horrible night that was… I think back to when we first meet and you backed me up on the Aggravated Assault call at Wal-mart and when I backed you up off of Fort Howard Road, then after the calls, we would just talk, I miss that a lot… I just wanted to let you know you will never be forgotten and will always be missed… And to the Family of Dennis, you all will always be in my prayers…

WELL DAD, SORRY IT HAS TAKEN ME SO LONG TO COME BACK ON HERE,BEEN REAL BUSY WITH SCHOOL, NEW JOB, AND FINALLY GETTING SETTLED INTO THE NEW HOUSE. I RECIEVED A LETTER FROM COPS THE OTHER DAY AND IT HAD A PICTURE OF ME AND SHANE WALKING TO PUT THE FLOWER ON THE WREATH AT THE MEMORIAL SERVICE. IT'S LIKE THEY KNOW WHEN I'M STARTING TO DO BETTER ABOUT THE WHOLE SITUATION AND THEN BAM I LOOSE IT AGAIN. WE WERE BACK IN EFFINGHAM THIS PAST WEEK AND LEFT YOU SOME MORE THINGS AT YOUR GRAVE SITE. IT'S ALWAYS SO HARD TO GO BY THERE. KYLE WENT WITH ME AND I SWEAR IF I WOULD LET HIM HE'D SIT THERE ALL DAY AND TALK TO YOU. IT'S PRETTY BAD WHEN HE SITS THERE AND TELLS ME EVERYTHING IS GOING TO BE OK BECAUSE HE KNOWS THAT YOUR SPIRIT IS ALWAYS WITH US AND YOUR WATCHING US AND TAKING CARE OF US EVERYDAY. I WAS LOOKING AT SOME OF YOUR OLD PICTURES (WHEN YOU WERE YOUNG AND SKINNY)AND IT'S AMAZING HOW MUCH HE LOOKS LIKE YOU. BRETT AND KENDALL ARE DOING GOOD TOO. YOU WOULD BE SO PROUD OF THEM. WE MISS YOU AND LOVE YOU LOTS.
