I feel terrible for the family, friends, and members of the BGPD. As everybody knows, everyday presents new risks when you put on the uniform. It's so unfortunate that a career has to be cut short by those who have a depraved indifference to life. Take each day and try to deal with your grief as best as you can knowing that David was an exemplary police officer respected by all. God knows it will be difficult.

I knew David personally. As I sit here and read all of the reflections from people all around this nation and abroad. It brings a tear to my eye that so many people still care. As a police officer we deal with the scum of the earth (mainly) but it makes me feel better knowing there are still people out there that care and know what we are going thru. This was a dark day for all of us, not only in Bowling Green but for the law enforement community. David will be greatly missed. Everytime I seen him he had a smile on his face. That's what I'll how always remember him. David was not only a good officer but a better human being. He will be greatly missed.

Please also pray for the officers that were by his side on his final hour. God bless you David.

My heartfelt sympathy goes out to the family and fellow officers of MPO Whitson.

While no one who wears a badge wants to be put into such a situation, he put himself into the line of fire to protect those whom he might not have even known despite the danger. While I did not have the privilege to have known him personally, I am certain that he has found a place in heaven.

Rest in peace my friend; those of us who remain will cover your post on the thin blue line.

To Officer Whitsons Wife,
I cannot begin to understand what you must be going through right now. I am also married to a police officer, and like many others have I let my guard down because I never believe(d) anything could happen to my husband. But, that guard is now gone, and I will never let my husband leave for work again without a kiss and "I love you". I hope you got your kiss. I will pray for God to give you strength in these tough times, and I'm sure David will be your new guardian angel. I pray that your kids will always know how much their Daddy loved them, and how he lost his life while trying to protect other, which means their Daddy was a HERO! You will never walk alone!

David,
Before today, you were my friend. Now you are a friend of the world. You gave your life today to protect the citizens of our community and we will be forever grateful. Times come when an officer must pay the ultimate sacrifice. You never think it is going to be someone you know or someone I talked to just last week. David, I pray that God is with you now and that your family can travel the journey of life knowing that their father/husband was the greatest man this city has ever known. I will miss you David and use what I have learned from you to guide me to be the better person I know you were. I looked up to you as an officer before today, I look up to you as a Hero now.
