Slim was unique. He wanted you to smile and be happy even if it meant he was the punch line to one of his own jokes. Slim didn’t complain and could find the positive in any situation he encountered. He always had either a smile or a smirk on his face and you always knew that he was thinking about the next joke or impression he was going to do. He was hired three months before me and when my group of recruits went to the academy after his group had long graduated, the instructors always told us how much fun he was to be around. Just like so many others on here, I never told him just how special he was. We all miss and love him dearly. One day your kids will know just how wonderful their father was. You ended your watch protecting citizens that will never appreciate what having an officer like you on their force means. You fought in the face of extreme danger and for that you are my hero.
To my extended family at the BGPD, we all will get through this. You are not alone and we will continue to stand beside you.

To David and his family, I pray for you. I worked with David at Bowling Green Police Department and knew him personally. I think about the times we worked together and how you would always find something funny to say.
As I close I think about this scripture and how true it is; "Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for the life of his friends". David, you will be missed by all.

As a former resident of Bowling Green, I would like to thank you for working to make that community a safer place. It is unfortunate that a few people choose to live outside the law.

I will be thinking of your wife, children, and other family members. May they find peace during this difficult time.

Rest in peace, brother.

May your friends, family and brothers feel your warmth during this time. I hope that your children grow to know the courage their father held and that your wife finds the strength to make it happen. I also hope the officers involved in this crisis receive the care they need, as they are living out an officer's worst nightmare. Sir, you walked the line oh so proudly, "...you've done your time in hell". Requiem in pacem!

I can say without hesitation that the Bowling Green P.D. and citizens of Bowling Green have lost someone very special. During my five years working alongside David protecting the Bowling Green community, I came to respect him as a dedicated officer but more so as a person, husband, and father. Even though I now live in Indiana, I ran into David a few weeks ago when I dropped my daughter off at school. David's daughter is in my daughter's class. David and I spoke briefly and told each other how good it was to see each other again. Little did I know David would abruptly be taken away from us all.

Even though I never personally met David's wife Holly before this tragedy, I have heard David talk about her and their children many times. They were his life. As a fellow officer and friend, it is my prayer that your life will be celebrated not mourned. There are so many fond memories of you that I can carry with me and cherish forever. You will not be forgotten. See you in heaven buddy.

MPO Whitson was the type of person if you had met him only once, you could count him as a friend. He was out-going, compassionate, and as true a man as I have ever met. Ofc. Whitson, I thank God for the chance to know you, and for the sacrifice you made for us. May the Heavenly Father welcome you into His arms, and bless your family with peace in your absence. You will never be forgotten.

I was lucky enough to know MPO Whitson both on a professional and personal level. I have read several statements and comments in reguard to Officer Whitson and his family. I must also agree that Officer Whitson was a good man. He cared deeply for his wife and children. He and his wife would always lend me a hand when I needed. There were times that he, as well as his wife, would help me cut my grass, play basketball with my boys, or just stand and talk in the yard about their silly dogs. I know my boys and I are going to miss him dearly. For his wife, girl stay strong and you know me and the boys are here for you and the kids.
