Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Jeffrey Vaughn Mitchell

Reading through the reflections left for Deputy Mitchell, everything I felt when I read about this tragedy has already been written. It was a senseless killing and my heart breaks for his wife and son. You all are in our hearts and prayers. Your husband/father/friend/co-worker will never be forgotten. God bless, and may you rest peacefully, Deputy.

Again we are here to leave thoughts for those who are left with the horrible thoughts of putting another wonderful Peace Officer to rest. We pray, we seek solace from others but yet the cowardly acts of another human taking a life is just alot to bear.
"A Part Of America Died,"
Somebody killed a policeman today,
And part of America died.
A piece of our country he swore to protect,
Will be buried with him at his side.
The suspect that shot him will stand up in court,
With counsel demanding his rights.
While a young widowed mother must work for her kids,
And spend many long lonely nights.
The beat he walked was a battle field too
just as if he had gone off to war.
Though the flag of our nation won't fly at half mast,
To his name they will add a gold star.
Yes, somebody killed a policeman today,
In your town or mine,
While we slept in comfort behind locked doors,
A cop put his life on the line.
Now his ghost walks a beat on a dark city street,
And stands at each new rookies' side.
He answered the call,of himself and gave his all,
And a part of America died.

Dear Family of Jeff,
I am saddened to hear that you have lost your son, husband, daddy. I went to school with Jeff in grade school in Campbell and lived down the street from him and his family. He was such a friendly boy and I am sure grew to be a wonderful man. My hope is that his trust was in God and he is "home" now with his God and Savior Jesus Christ.
My prayers are with you all.

My deepest sympathies to Dep. Mitchell's family, friends, and dept.

I was sick to my stomach when I read about what had happened to deputy Mitchell. Having dated a police officer and having many others as friends, I truly respect all the men and women that go out on the streets to protect us every day. People need to remember that police officers are only human, mistakes can be made, accidents happen and way to often tragedy occurs, but THEY are the ones trying to protect US! They are all heros for simply being willing to make such a sacrifice for us, their life.
To Jeff's little boy, remember always and forever, and be proud that your father was a real life hero! Your all in my prayers.

Im very sorry to here of the loss of another brother. I did not know this brave Deputy, but when one goes down we all do. I feel the loss, as one of my friends, (AJ) Schroeder was shot and killed back in August 2006 while serving the great citizens of Cleveland. No words can describe the feelings we all share.
To the other Deputies in Sacramento County, keep your heads up and be proud of this fine man.

Jeff, Brother,

I remember seeing you around RCCC years ago before you were an officer. I was the first one to find you at the scene..... MAN I wish there was more I could have done for you!

The one thing that will always stay with me is while the EMTs were working on you, I got to see a glimpse of that smile in the picture above. What ever it was you saw must have been wonderful. God's speed my brother!

To Jeff's family,

You are in my thoughts and prayers. If there is anything I can ever do please don't hesitate to ask. Your husband, father, son.....will be forever remembered as one of the Sheriff's Department's finest.

God bless Jeff, his family, and every law enforcement officer who continues to do the job.

Deputy Mitchell, I thought when I retired that the on duty death of an officer would not have an effect on me like it did before. I was wrong. You were doing your job, looking for bad guys. I sincerely hope that the citizens of this country will stop and think of all the men and women who are out there 24 hours a day, 365 days a year doing just what you were, your job, keeping the bad guys from preying on citizens. You did well, your reward will be great. My wife and I mourn you and mourn with your family and brothers and sisters still out on the line, doing their job.
