To the family, both literal and extended, I am so sorry for this loss. It takes a special person to do what Sheriff Johnson did on the job. To Sheriff Johnson's family, always know that it's not just your county, but 50 states worth of those in law enforcement who care. And to the coworkers of Sheriff Johnson, it will never be right, the situation, but do what you know is right. That's what we do. It makes a leagacy proud.

As we reflect on times such as these it leaves us with feelings we can not put into words. The loss of a fellow law enforcement member is so terribly tragic for every person this man's noble life encountered. We each in our own way must try and find a way to deal with these losses and strive to carry out the duties we swore to uphold as law enforcement officers. I wish to thank Sheriff Johnson for his commitment to his career, his family for their support while he did the job he swore to do, and all the men and women who served with him.
From all of us at the City of Wakefield and the Wakefield Police Department, please know that our prayers go out to each and every person this tragedy has affected. God Bless Sheriff Johnson, his family, the Sheridan County Sheriff's Department, to all who knew and respected him, and to all that suffer from this tremedous loss. Rest in peace friend.

Chief Glen Mallam
Wakefield Police Department (KS)

You will be missed.

October 30, 2006

I was a Kansas sheriff from 1987 to 2005. Sheriff Johnson and I were in the same sheriff's orientation class in 1988. Jim was a quiet man, a polite man, and a very caring man. I enjoyed what little time that I was able to spend with Jim. I pray for his family to get through this hard time and have them know that he will always be remembered by his extended law enforcement family

Jail Director Janet Harrington
Wilson County Sheriff's Office, Kansas

October 30, 2006

Though I never knew him, he was part of my Law Enforcement family and I will mourn this deep loss the rest of my life. My heart aches with all the losses we suffered, and continue to suffer, through the years. God is our only peace through such incidents & our comfort is that He will judge the guilty without fail and without end.

Linda and all the deputies and office help,

This is a great loss for your county and the State of Kansas, Jim will be missed. Did not realize it, but this is really getting me down. I am having a very hard time with this. If I am I know all of you are, and will miss him, but we all have to go on in his honor. He would not want us to quit and give up. That was not Jim. Have a lot of memories to remember Jim with. Sorry I can not get off for the funeral. You all know I would be there if there was any way to get there.
