Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Sheriff James Leroy Johnson

To the family of Sheriff Johnson,

As a fellow Kansan and a fellow family member of an officer killed in the line of duty, please accept our prayers and heartfelt sorrow for your loss. No words will fill the void in your hearts. But please know that you were and are loved. The death of our beloved has given us the inner peace of knowing that we are not alone and that our hero was watching us from above.

I would like to pass on my sympathy and prayers to the family, co workers, and friends of Sheriff Johnson. As Christmas approaches it will be especially difficult for everyone who knew Sheriff Johnson. If the words written about him are a true reflection he was indeed a great man and officer. Again my prayers are with his family and the employees of the Sheridan County Sheriff's Office. May Sheriff Johnson rest in peace knowing his brothers in blue will provide protection just like he did for so many years.

Sincerely;

I come to the ODMP often to remember my late fiancé Dennis. Everytime I come here it breaks my heart to know that yet another officer has fallen and that yet another family has to live their lives without the man they loved. My heart goes out to everyone who knew and loved Sheriff Johnson, especially to his wife. Know that you are not alone in the "journey" that you walk. Should you ever need anything please don't hesitate to contact me. The Davis Co. Sheriff's Office in Iowa will always know how to reach me. You will be in my thoughts.

From reading the reflections left for James, he sounds like he was a great man with a beautiful spirit. Those of you who knew him in life were so blessed to have been able to share in it. I hope that you will all continue to find a way to celebrate and remember James' life and the MAN that he was. Remember that James' life was about so much more than the way he died. James will continue to live on as long as we continue to remember him.

Sheriff Johnson, thank you for helping to make this world a little safer for us all. YOU will not be forgotten. Please continue to watch over all of us as only you can. If you happen to bump into my late fiancé Dennis up there give him a big hug for me and the kids. It's been almost four years but we still miss him terribly.

Wishing you brighter and better days,

Jocelyne :)

To Linda and Children, Please know that Jimmy's sacrifice will never be forgotten, his precious memories will live forever in the hearts he left behind. Your friends DAN and Gail Lewis from Hoxie were staying with me in Kauai when they got the devastating news of Jimmy's death. I felt their grief as my father Palos Verdes Estates Capt. Mike Tracy was gunned down in the line of duty on 2-14-94. My prayers are with your loving family as as you adjust to life without your beloved husband and father. Concerns of Police Survivors is a very helpful organization. They are there to assist you in any way they possibly can. God bless you and hold you tight in his loving arms.

My loving prayers are with you,

I've known Jim for over 30 years. Jim helped keep me in line when I was young and foolish and has shared wisdom with me over the years. He was the model of a kind sole. The world benefited from this wonderful man.

We here at the Canon City Internet Radio would like to send our deepest sympathies and all of our prayers to the family, loved ones, friends, and all of those who wear the badge of law enforcement. What another tragedy that we face in losing another Officer..... I know that Sheriff Johnson was doing the job he wanted to and loved.
"A POLICEMAN'S PRAYER"
BROTHER WHEN YOU WEEP FOR ME REMEMBER THAT IT WAS MEANT TO BE.
LAY ME DOWN AND WHEN YOU LEAVE REMEMBER I'LL BE AT YOUR SIDE...IN EVERY DARK AND DREARY ALLEY I'LL BE THERE AS YOU SLOWLY TREAD, ON EVERY STREET CORNER IN THE DRIVING SNOW I'LL HOLD YOUR COAT AND YOU WILL KNOW.
IN PLACES WHERE THE DEVIL IS AFRAID TO WALK...
AT DOORS WHERE YOU MEET RESISTANCE...
IN HOUSES WHERE CHILDREN HIDE,,,
YOU KNOW I'LL BE AT YOUR SIDE.
THE PLACE FROM WHICH I NOW RESPOND IS OVERSTAFFED WITH HEROES GONE...MEN WHO ANSWERED ONE LAST JOB AND DID IT WELL.
AS POLICEMEN WE UNDERSTAND THAT THIS IS A CARD DEALT IN OUR HAND...A CARD WE HOPE WE NEVER PLAY BUT WE HOLD IT THERE ANYWAY.
THE CARD IS SOMETHING WE IGNORE AS WE STAND ON THAT THIN BLUE LINE EVERY TOUR...FOR WE KNOW THAT WE ARE THE ONLY PRAYER FOR MANY OUT THERE.
SO REMEMBER, AS YOU WIPE YOUR TEARS, THE JOY I HAVE KNOWN THROUGHOUT THE YEARS...AS THE JOB I LOVED TO DO I PRAY THAT THIS THOUGHT WILL SEE YOU THROUGH.

To the Family and Friends,

My hearts go out to you all, as you struggle with the loss of a wonderful man. I know all to well what you all must be feeling right now, as I lost my brother 8 months ago...a police officer killed in the line of duty. Just like my brother and all Peace Officers that have died, Sheiff James L. Johnson's memory will live on forever. We will remember what he died doing....protecting your community. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

God Bless,
