Reflections for Police Officer Thomas T. Wood

I grew up in a small town called Salisbury, North Carolina after my father was killed in a Navy Aircraft Accident. My mother raised my 3 sisters and me by herself but with great community support including our neighbor Canine Policeman Officer Jim Hurley and his great dog "Rick." I still remember the times I spent with Officer Hurley and his dedication. I am sure Officer Woods was of the same "metal." Our toughts go to his wife and family. He has given the ultimate sacrifice!

When it came over the radio it sent chills down my spine "officer down",it's something that I've never heard before and wish and pray not to hear again. Officer Wood may God watch over your family and friends and the rest of the brave men and women of the Maywood Police Department. You are a true hero. R.I.P Ofc Woods.

As I sat at work the night of 10/23/06 and heard the words officer down my heart sank. Never hearing those words or even wanting to. It makes you feel as if you are apart of everything going on at that moment, a dispatcher's job is hard, but an officer's job is even harder. I may not have known you personally, but your death has touched my life forever. May God be with your family as they go through this tough time without you in their presence, I know you will forever be in their spirit as well as your fellow officers, both near and far. God Bless

When I am at work I still expect to see you sitting there waiting for me to come get Daro. Having that happy dog jump all over me as I TRY and weigh him and you just smiling and laughing cause he is so HYPER lol .. I still can't believe this has happened, I am numb and I will not be over this for a very long time to come. I will contribute to your wife and children and I ask everyone who reads this to please make a donation. The things I am reading about this man proves to me just how much he has touched the lives of everyone around him and in the end that is all we ourselves can hope for. I miss you Officer Wood.

Did you ever eat anything that wasnt chicken related?? I remember always seeing you picking your teeth, getting that chicken out of there. DUDE that was annoying. You computer geek. I wish you would have sat down with me and had a doublecheese from Pete's. You should have carried some toothpicks with you on your belt, as long as they were in basketweave so Sgt. wouldnt trip about it not being against our use of force policy. :) Nice wrinkled shirt. I remember that Lt. told you in rollcall to get in uniform, then you left and reappeared with an equally as wrinkled jacket that was probably sitting in the bottom of your locker since last year. LOL!!! We were on that traffic stop on 17th, me and Babciz were already in the car(after Daro the wonderdog hit on the dash)and Im upside down, so you decide to squeeze your tall goofy self in there, so now all three of us are jammed underneath the dashboard. People must have thought we were crazy. Then you and Vargas were wrestling on the side of the car while its pouring rain, when Babicz grabbed the back of your duty belt so you couldnt move. Rookies got the drop on you! haha (you always thought you were Mr. Kungfu!)Did it ever dawn on Daro how serious his job was? I dont think so. He could have found 10 keys, he didnt care he just wanted his tennis ball. I remember that time you forgot his ball, and he sat down on that driver's seat and looked at us.(what happen man??) He didnt want to get out.You had to drag him out. Or once he stuck his nose way down between the seat, and everyone thought he found something, except it was some onion rings that fell between the seat. LoL!!! Thats Maywood. You were Maywood. Im gonna miss you bro. May god bless you and your family. We won't ever forget.

Just hours before he was killed, he came up to my dance class. We called him MR. Wood or Officer Wood. He was very nice, even if we used him as a target. I didn't really personally know him, but it felt like I did. For him to die like that, is terrible. I really miss him and I would like all of his friends and loved ones to know that you have my respect and that the time I saw him was great and I hope your Experience with him was, too.
